INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT OFFICE
Assistant Director (Ref. 20061909-IE)
The Innovation and Technology Development Office (ITDO) supports the University’s mission to develop, translate and apply technology arising from its research. We spark innovation, turn intractable problems into opportunities, and synergize research and business acumen by fostering:
(i) the advancement of major research and development initiatives with knowledge transfer potential as well as the governance and management of intellectual properties of the University;
(ii) the creation of innovative technology development and transfer opportunities through collaborative platform building and the engagement in and facilitation of collaborative research with government and non-government organizations, the industry and business communities; and
(iii) the management of the overall operational and administrative work for PolyU’s strategic R&D Cluster Centres.
Duties
The appointee will be under the supervision of the Director of Innovation and Technology Development or his/her delegates, and will be required to:
(a) support the Director in the overall management and operations of the strategic R&D Cluster Centres, and supervise the staff in central administrative unit of the Centres;
(b) support the Director in preparing annual plans, budgeting, financial reporting of the Centres and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, guidelines and requirements;
(c) support the Centres to implement policies, guidelines and procedures to ensure and achieve high quality in operations management;
(d) serve as the key interface between the University and the central administrative unit of the Centres, as well as liaise with senior partners of the government, universities, research organizations and industries;
(e) coordinate the promotion of the deliverables; and
(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Innovation and Technology Development or his/her delegates from time to time.
The appointee will be required to work beyond normal office hours when necessary.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree in Business, Law or Finance. Preference will be given to those with professional legal, accounting or company secretarial qualification;
(b) solid and extensive relevant managerial experience, normally not less than ten years, in business or a sizable research institute;
(c) excellent business acumen, effective management skills as well as independent and detailed analytical skills;
(d) good interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels and relevant external partners; and
(e) excellent presentation and communication skills, and a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.
Candidates with less working experience may be considered for the post of Senior Manager.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
