Job Description

Assistant Director, Human Resources

The Assistant Director, Human Resources is responsible for assisting the Director in the direction and administration of the Human Resources function in order to contribute to the hotel’s strategic direction and culture.

Requirements

•1-2 years experience as an Assistant Director, Human Resources or managing a functional area of Human Resources in a unionized environment
•University/College degree in a related discipline an asset
•Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
•Self-confident, creative and proactive, able to prioritize and make effective decisions
•Ability to build strong relationships, interact and influence others at all levels of the organization
•Ability to gauge talent and a candidate’s potential fit within in the company culture an asset
•Highly organized and able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
•Computer literacy a must, with a strong knowledge of Word, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
•PHR certification an asset

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ø Long hours sometimes may be required.
Ø Light work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

 

Responsibilities

Ø Oversee the day to day administration of the Human Resources Office, including but not limited to, recruiting, training and development, wage/benefit administration, compliance with statutory requirements, colleague relations, labor relations and contract compliance, performance evaluations, and workers compensation and safety
Ø Maintain an “open door” policy. Act as a resource for management and colleagues to express issues or disputes and resolve concerns by ensuring open communication
Ø Manage the union and non-union benefit changes and administration.
Ø Administer COBRA and HIPPA notifications

Ø Assist the learning/ training function by conducting leadership compliance training, discrimination and harassment training and some or all portions of the new colleague orientation program
Ø Advise and assist with the interpretation and consistent application of HR policies, company policies and procedures, applicable legislation and  labor law
Ø Assist in managing the budget for the human resources department
Ø Provide direction, training and coaching in regards to all human resources initiatives including performance management.
Ø Manage the Hotels Injury and Illness Prevention program

Ø Manage the administration of Hotel’s Workers Compensation program

Ø Support and uphold company philosophy concerning hiring, employee relations, supervision and disciplinary action.
Ø Oversee the management of the hotel’s human resources information system
Ø Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job
