Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Assistant or Duty Manager to take their next step up to Assistant Front Office Manager (AFOM). And why is the position open you ask? Because our AFOM has been promoted to our Front Office Manager, after she was promoted internally also. We are not selling you a story, we are the real deal here at Mercure Sydney.

 

We are a big hotel, looking for some big talent! With 517 newly refurbished rooms, 9 conference rooms, and multiple food and beverage outlets, Mercure Sydney is located right next to Central Station.

What you will be doing:

  • You will oversee day-to-day operations, contribute to business progression, and mentor and develop staff. 
  • Create belonging for the Front Office team by supporting and training team members, on the Mercure brand and Hotel standards
  • Assist the FOM to prepare rosters for the Front Desk, Duty Managers, Reception and Night Audit in accordance with business demands and budgeting requirements
  • Liaise with Housekeeping and Reservations to facilitate the correct management of hotel inventory. 
  • Ensure the Front Office team are briefed on any VIP/ Return guests and that all necessary preparations are made to ensure they feel welcomed and special 

Your experience and skills include:

  • A desire to listen to others stories and look for opportunities to make them feel special
  • An understanding of complaint resolution with an aim to meet both a business and customer centric outcome.
  • A sound knowledge & application of the Opera system or similar Reservations system
  • A high level of attention to detail  and exceptional organizational & time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • RSA & First Aid Certificates 
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus
