Job Description

Assistant Librarian I/II (Digital Initiatives and Systems)

The appointee will be responsible for all Library’s IT-related development and support issues. He/She is responsible for (a) administering and managing mission-critical systems of the Library including but not limited to the library service platform Alma, discovery platform Primo , ILLiad Interlibrary Loan, EZproxy, Library website, SharePoint, institutional repository platform at Bepress etc.; (b) providing strong software and programming support to Library operations and automation; (c) planning for the purchase of IT-related equipment and software, and budget management; (d) assisting in the formulation and implementation of systems policies and procedures; (e) leading the team to provide a wide range of quality service, supervising and training supporting staff; (f) representing the Library in internal and external committees; and (g) undertaking other tasks as assigned. Shift duties at library counters in the evening and public holidays are required.

 

Requirements

Applicants should have (i) a good university degree in a relevant field, preferably in computer science, software engineering or equivalent; and/or recognized professional qualifications in Librarianship (MLS or equivalent); (ii) preferably 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience; (iii) demonstrated ability in software and web application programming, development and integration; (iv) working knowledge of web programming and applications such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Perl, SQL, Drupal, Apache, Solr, XML and preferably an understanding of Linux and Windows Server operating systems; (v) experience in project management with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; (vi) good ability to work independently and in teams; and (vi) a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese. Previous experience in academic libraries, current knowledge of emerging technological trends and activities related to integrated library systems such as Alma/Primo, and other third-party products; and familiarity with information processing of CJK materials will be advantageous. Candidates with less/more experience will also be considered for appointment at a relevant rank.
