Assistant Librarian II (Ref. 20090113-IE) 

Under the general direction of Associate Librarian (Digital Development and Services), the appointee will be responsible for developing and managing the Multimedia Commons, a communal workspace in the PolyU Library to support the use and creation of multimedia content in education and scholarship. He/She will lead a team of Technicians and Library Assistants to deliver media services as well as to develop the Library’s MakerMindset programme in i-Space to foster the development of digital skills and a creative mindset among students. The appointee will be required to:
 
Duties 

(a) develop Library services to facilitate the University community to use and create multimedia content for teaching, learning or research activities;

(b) lead a team of Technicians and Library Assistants to manage media resources, specialised AV equipment, recording studios, rooms equipped for group viewing and collaborative space for multimedia production;

(c) manage and establish policies and procedures for using the resources, equipment and spaces in the Multimedia Commons;

(d) provide assistance and instruction to students and faculty members on accessing and using media resources and facilities in the Multimedia Commons;

(e) plan and manage events and activities under the Library’s MakerMindset programme in i-Space to help students explore using emerging technologies, such as Virtual Reality and Internet-of-Things (IoT) in learning;

(f) perform shift duties at the Enquiry Counter; and

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or his/her delegates from time to time

Qualifications 

Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised degree with postgraduate qualification in Library Science or Information Science;

(b) demonstrated understanding of trends in providing media services to support instruction and learning;

(c) relevant experience, preferably in a large library operation or an academic library;

(d) excellent communication skills and good interpersonal, customer service and leadership skills; and

(e) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
