Assistant Librarian II (Research Support)

The appointee will work in the Research Support and Archives Section of the Library and will be responsible for heading a new research support team to develop and manage a suite of research support services to meet the strategic development needs of the University. He or she is required to (a) explore and develop scholarly communication services and best practices including but not limited to Open Access, publishing and dissemination, copyright and author rights, researcher identity, data management, research impact; (b) oversee the management of the University’s Research Information Management System (RIMS), Institutional Repository (IR) and other relevant service platforms or applications; (c) provide expertise in the management and use of metadata to fulfill administrative reporting purpose and University strategic direction needs; (d) provide education, instruction, consultation and outreach services to promote and raise awareness about scholarly communication; (e) supervise staff and provide training; (f) represent the Library in different committees and task forces both internally and externally; and (g) perform other duties as assigned by supervisors. Shift duties on evenings, weekends and public holidays will be required.
Requirements
Applicants should have (i) a good university degree and recognized professional qualifications in Librarianship (MLS or equivalent); (ii) a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in libraries, preferably in academic libraries; (iii) sound knowledge of current and emerging issues in the context of scholarly communication and research support; (iv) ability in metadata management in RIMS, IR or other publishing platforms; (v) work experience in fostering productive collaboration with faculty, researchers, and other University stakeholders in the area of research dissemination, preferably in user training; (vi) a good command of English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua) with excellent presentation, communications and customer service skills; (vii) ability to work independently and with team members; and (viii) hands-on experience in RIMS and Digital Repository platforms, such as PURE or Digital Commons will be an advantage. Candidates with less/more experience will also be considered for appointment at a relevant rank.
Salary and Benefits
The rank and commencing salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, where applicable, include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund and gratuity.
