Assistant Project Accountant Siemens Mobility have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Project Accountant to join our Rail Infrastructure team in Birmingham. Your role, and what you’ll be doing: Supporting the Finance Manager, the Assistant Project Accountant will provide specifically defined financial & administrative controls for our Birmingham based Rail projects, cost centres and bid projects. To provide timely & accurate information to ensure that Corporate Governance requirements are fully met. Whatever your background, you’ll love your prospects at Siemens. With Siemens, you’ll receive training and support, and be encouraged to take ownership of your role from day one. What will be my Responsibilities? 1. Project Mobilisation a. Undertake a handover from the Tendering and Estimating team of the financial elements of a successful bid, including the baseline value and budget of the smaller scale projects. 2. Project Forecasting and Reporting a. Assist with the review and analysis of project actuals and forecast spend to support Work Package Managers (WPM) and the Project Manager (PM) in the financial control and forecasting of their budgets. b. Assist with the analysis of new project forecasts, developing a view on robustness, timing, risk and opportunity. Review and, if necessary, challenge with both WPM and PM before finalising . c. Ensuring all change is properly incorporated in cost and value, including approvals for submitting contract variations and including unagreed variations in forecast final value. d. Working with other parts of the project team as necessary e. Ensure all project audit requirements are dealt with in a timely and professional manner. 3. Functional Reporting and Forecasting a. Assist with project reports and forecasts ensuring they are submitted to Central Finance on time, accurate and approved. b. Provide meaningful supporting commentary where required on variance analysis 4. Month End a. Assist with accruals journals relating to each project. b. Ensure the correct trading margin % and verify the traded position c. Assist with commentary on traded position and financial status/movement where necessary 5. Accounts Receivable a. Manage or support the setup, submission and processing of Payment Applications, certificates and invoices, including all postings to the ledger. b. Actively monitor the payment cycle ensuring any required actions are taken to maximize the cash position, chasing payments with supplier where necessary c. If dealing with cost reimbursable contracts, ensure timely and accurate provision of all supporting information to enable issuing, approval and payment of project milestones in a timely manner. 6. Other Responsibilities a. Maintenance of the project and WBS within the ERP Project Ledger. b. Ensure any foreign exchange risk is managed in accordance with Company policy. c. Ensuring robust systems are in place for managing project site costs, local cash books or banking facilities. d. Compliance with all Group accounting policies, but in particular with the long term contract accounting policy. e. Aim to continuously improve financial processes and systems. f. Support ad hoc studies and projects where required. What do I need to qualify for this job?
