Job Description

SERVICE-LEARNING AND LEADERSHIP OFFICE 

Assistant Service-Learning Officer (Ref. 20052609-IE) 

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a) assist in planning and implementing innovative service-learning and leadership programmes in close collaboration with academic staff; 

(b) assist in developing meaningful and challenging service-learning and leadership development opportunities locally as well as offshore; 

(c) assist in developing teaching/training materials and providing training for students on service-learning, civic responsibility, community needs, service planning and implementation, and to develop their generic competencies such as global leadership and cross-cultural competencies; 

(d) assist in planning and implementing the promotion of service-learning and leadership development inside and outside PolyU; 

(e) assist in conducting evaluation on service-learning subjects/projects and leadership programmes, e.g. student assessment, outcome evaluation, impact measurement, etc.; 

(f) assist in the departmental office administration and/or support of IT systems; and 

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Office or his delegates. 

The appointee may be required to travel occasionally outside Hong Kong and work on irregular hours, including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. 

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a) have a recognised degree, preferably in Engineering, IT, Design, Education, Psychology, Social Science or an equivalent qualification; 

(b) have at least three years’ relevant post-qualification working experience; 

(c) have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; 

(d) have good computer literacy and/or statistical evaluation skills; 

(e) have an outgoing personality and good social skills; and 

(f) be able to work independently and proactively. 

Preference will be given to those with working experience in academic service-learning in the tertiary education sector. 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written language proficiency test. 

Remuneration and Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
