Then come join our R&D IT team and play a pivotal role in modernising systems and processes enabling Clinical Trials in the Clinical and Development Operations Value Stream in R&D IT.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a credible manager to advance modern software development practices within our team (DevOps/CI/CD/automated testing), and building bespoke integration solutions which will accelerate AZ’s ability of run clinical trials more efficiently.
To achieve this goal we need a strong senior individual to work with teams of engineers, support analysts, as well as engage and influence other global teams to ensure that our priorities are aligned with the needs of our Clinical Operations . The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of technology, architecture and design and also a good functional understanding of the Pharma R&D processes, along with experience in using Agile methodology and DevOps principles. The candidate should be passionate about software development and also willing to lead, coach and enable wider teams to grow and expand their software delivery capabilities and skills.

What you’ll do.
The role will accountable for ensuring the seamless service delivery for the Clinical and Development Operations Value stream in R&D IT. In addition the role would also play the DevOps lead role for the A&R platform, streamlining processes related to clinical operations, data and applications, while deploying CI/CD, working alongside platform lead, architect, BA, and engineering and support teams. You will be working to understand, devise technical solutions, estimate and deliver and run operationally sustainable platform software. You need to use your technical acumen to resolve an optimal balance between COTS and home-grown solutions and own their lifecycles and roadmap.
Our delivery teams are distributed across multiple locations and as a Value Stream lead you will need to coordinate activities of technical internal and contract employees. You must be capable of working with others, driving ownership of solutions, showing modesty while aspiring to enable the development of platform technical team members in our journey. You will raise expectations within the whole team, solve complex technical problems and work alongside complementary delivery platforms while aligning solutions with scientific and data strategies and target architecture.
Key responsibilities:
- End-to-end Service accountability of applications within the R&D Late Stage Clinical IT portfolio
- Provides delivery leadership across systems and applications in the Analysis and Reporting Platform; demonstrate technical skills across multiple application support areas.
- Provide a holistic view of the Clinical production environment for both technology and business management, working closely as a trusted partner for senior business heads.
- Champion stability initiatives to enable application high availability for Business-As-Usual which includes better monitoring, failover and resiliency of R&D IT applications
- Voice support for the adoption of BizDevOps tools and capabilities within the business and IT community
- Ownership of audit and GxP compliance-related application records in a highly matrixed environment.
- When needed, serve as a technical consultant and SAS professional for IT and business partners across regions and business areas.
- Ability to handle incidents, problems and change at a global enterprise level. Calm and analytical when faced with major incidents on critical systems.
- Drive application modules in support transitions and ensure application stability when taking over BAU support of new applications.
- Focus on people development, evaluating resource performance and making decisions on pay, hiring, training and other personnel actions.
Skills & Capabilities
The role requires strong technical skills and we consider the below essential capabilities:
Good understanding of the Pharma R&D processes with specific exposure to clinical development and operations
Knowledge and experience in analysis and reporting within the pharmaceutical industry, its relevant business processes, clinical trial information, regulations, and guidelines impacting the drug development process
Experience working with JIRA, Service Now and Automated Testing tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, JIRA, Confluence, CI CD tools - Ansible, etc)
Certification in Project Management/PMP preferred
Experience of working in agile teams using methodologies such as SCRUM and SAFe
Experience with Monitoring tools like Splunk and AppDynamics
Experience of vendor/technology selection to fulfill specific gaps in the solution stack
Experience working with global teams, delivering and supporting solutions
14 to 16 years of hands on software development experience and solution and service delivery
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Maths, Computer Science, Information Science, or equivalent degree is preferred.
