Associate Director Clinical Sampling, Biosamples is responsible for the line management within the Clinical Sampling and Alliances (CSA) group. The post holders will also act as an individual on a number of specific strategic deliverables, so a high level of flexibility is required. The scope covered by the Clinical Sampling group covers all clinical trial activities linked to laboratory testing regardless of phase or indication and as such they may be deployed across Oncology and Biopharmaceuticals and Affiliate strategic projects.

Typical Accountabilities

• Recruitment and retention of staff within CSA group
• Skill development and maintenance within CSA group
• Resource management and efficient deployment to clinical studies/programmes
• Development and maintenance of processes owned by CSA group
• Driving productivity improvements and innovation within the CSA group
• Oversight of quality and compliance of CSA group
• Provide operational expertise and advice to CSA team
• Provide operational expertise and advice to clinical teams with regard to laboratory strategy development and operational deployment within the clinical setting
• Expected to contribute to Leadership team of CSA and governance of external supplier
• Provide rapid, regular and frequent updates of all activities to senior management within R&D and other functions within AstraZeneca as required
• Contribute to clinical laboratory training & education and to maintenance of relevant SOPs, guidelines, and templates

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required for the role:

Essential:

• Higher Degree (or relevant equivalent qualification) in relevant area, or relevant equivalent industry experience. 
• Proven experience in contributing to operational deployment of clinical laboratory testing
• Proven experience in oversight of external partners, especially clinical laboratory service providers
• Proven experience of management of complex projects
