The Associate Director, Facial Aesthetics Medical Affairs Lead Canada is a strategic country level leadership role, with principal responsibility for leading and building the medical affairs organization and developing the scientific and medical strategy that support the continuing success of Allergan in the country within the facial aesthetics portfolio. As a member of the relevant brand teams and extended country leadership team, the Associate Director, Facial Aesthetics Medical Affairs Lead Canada is the link between the R&D organization and the local country team via the Sub regional medical director. 

In this capacity, the Associate Director, Facial Aesthetics Medical Affairs Lead Canada the country facial medical affairs and manages Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs). This key leadership role requires a thorough understanding of all aspects of medical affairs that are relevant for the country.  These may include late stage development activities, pre- and post-launch medical and scientific activities, including the development and execution of core scientific activities and programs to ensure launch excellence of new products in the country.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development and execution of country level medical plans: work strategically and operationally with entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, to contribute valuable strategic input to Sub Regional medical plans and to country commercial plans, ensuring that the Country medical plans are aligned with Global medical and country commercial plans. 
  • Strong connection with local Opinion Leaders and External Organizations: maintain professional and credible relationships with top tier country opinion leaders, academic centers and external organizations e.g. governmental organizations, professional societies, etc. to ensure access to current medical and scientific information on the products and areas of therapeutic interest of Allergan.
  • Build and maintain a strong local medical team: recruit, retain and mentor high potential employees in the medical affairs team, ensuring that a talent pool exists for a dynamic and changing organization. Build a spirit of self-learning and development, demonstrating knowledge, ability to provide practical advice, resourcefulness and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic and Business Leadership

  • Lead, build and manage the country Facial Aesthetics Team
  • Actively engage with the Regional Medical functions to ensure that country level priorities and needs are championed and that Global strategy is implemented in Country.
  • Partner with the country commercial team(s) to develop commercial plans to ensure the continued success of the organization and scientific competitive leadership of the Allergan products.
  • Provide reactive support to the R&D development strategy and projects (Growth Product Flow) according to Country and Global needs.

External Engagement

  • Interact with top local Key Thought Leaders or healthcare decision makers at scientific meetings and other forums
  • The Associate Director, Facial Aesthetics Medical Affairs Lead Canadais the local Allergan scientific spokesperson with key stakeholders for the facial portfolio, e.g. educational events, medical societies, regulators, payers and all other key healthcare decision makers
  • Attend relevant medical congresses to extend medical knowledge, provide medical expertise and establish new/strengthen existing business relationships
  • Lead on our engagement in new therapeutic areas

Team Management   

  • Recruit and retain a team of high performing professionals, providing coaching and leadership to enable everyone to reach their full potential
  • Develop and execute an aligned Country medical plan with clear KPIs milestones and deliverables
  • Collaborate with Global Medical Excellence team to harmonise MSL’s activities and maximize value to the organization
  • Ensure that the medical team executes all plans with strict adherence to applicable company standards, policies and procedures and any country legislations or regulations maintaining high medical and ethical standards in all activities
  • Maintain and monitor all reporting and budget expenditures

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):

The requirements described in this section are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Education and Experience

  • Doctor of Medicine degree or Scientist with a PhD qualification
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry within Medical Affairs (minimum 5 years)
  • Team management experience desirable
  • Relevant therapeutic area knowledge experience desirable

  • Demonstrated understanding of drug development and commercialization processes, have sound and current knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements and a solid understanding of trial design and methodology 
  • Recent experience in launching new innovative products and supporting access for patients

  • Demonstrated ability to participate within an executive team and contribute to the development and implementation of winning strategies for the company overall with high integrity and strong work ethic
