BioPharmaceuticals R&D is one of two R&D organisations, responsible for Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism, and Respiratory and Immunology diseases, and opportunistically driven for Neuroscience and Microbial Sciences. Across our teams, we follow the science through drug discovery and development, and life-cycle management programmes. To put ourselves in the best position to push the boundaries of science, we seek to leverage our drug platforms, which encompass both small molecules, oligonucleotides and other emerging drug platforms, as well as biologics, including immunotherapies, and innovative delivery devices that can offer choice to patients.
 

The Internal Science & Portfolio Communications Associate Director will support BioPharmaceuticals R&D and directly engage with the Executive Vice President (EVP) BioPharmaceuticals R&D and their Leadership Team to prepare effective scientific communication material. Through expert scientific knowledge this individual will develop scientific content, messaging and materials and be responsible for BioPharmaceuticals R&D monthly business reporting to the Senior Executive Team (SET) and newsflow of pipeline milestones.
 

You will be a key member of the BioPharmaceuticals R&D Corporate Affairs team, working closely with internal and external communicators to ensure alignment of BioPharma R&D pipeline activities and messaging.
 

Candidate Focus & Challenge

  • Create compelling scientific content for BioPharmaceuticals R&D pipeline progressions for use by EVP and their leadership team to various audiences, internally and externally

  • Responsible for preparing internal communication materials, celebrating BioPharmaceuticals R&Ds’ pipeline advances e.g. internal news articles and ‘Publication Wall’ materials

  • Create scientific content for presentations for use by the EVP to internal and external audiences e.g. Town hall meetings, Science Committee presentations 

  • Actively seek out and work with BioPharmaceuticals R&D scientists to develop scientific examples that convey progress towards scientific leadership

  • Responsible for delivery of the monthly Senior Executive Report for BioPharmaceuticals R&D

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a view of key newsflow of BioPharmaceuticals R&D pipeline progressions on a monthly basis

  • Work closely with the Project Management organisation to ensure consistency and accuracy of the updates across the portfolio for all reporting and communication purposes

  • Provide scientific content and support as needed for internal science communication events, such as the BioPharmaceuticals R&D Global Science Symposium and R&D Awards.

 

Candidate Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • PhD or MS with significant experience of drug discovery/development

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as a proven track record of advanced communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent PowerPoint skills

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical drug discovery and development process

  • Track record of planning and delivery success

  • Excellent communication skills, particularly with scientific and complex information

  • Proven ability to drive projects forward to a successful conclusion in a matrix organization

  • Proactive with effective interpersonal and influencing skills

  • Willingness and proven ability to function in a hands-on capacity when necessary to achieve milestones, resolve issues and build an organization/function capable of driving toward measurable objectives

  • Able to recognize or anticipate change with appropriate response

  • Demonstrate attention to detail

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to develop strong relationships with senior leaders and other key stakeholders

  • Broad business perspective and acumen and goal-oriented approach
