The Associate Director Specialist Programming is accountable for leading, managing and developing a team of programmers. They present a delivery/department mindset and management skills to run and oversee one moderate scope and complexity project or multiple smaller ones. As a recognized expert within their own field they are often the first point of contact for related queries, acts as a coach or mentor for staff, and acts as a specialist within cross-functional teams to deliver continuous improvement.
Typical Accountabilities:
- Leads a team of programmers that apply computer science and information technology for the design of tools and related processes supporting the analysis and innovation process in function.
- Drives and/or owns the development of best practices to improve quality, efficiency and/or effectiveness within function.
- Demonstrates extensive programming expertise, keeps own knowledge of best practices and new relevant developments up to date.
- Lead/Contribute to evaluation of tools and processes in collecting different data types for delivery of analysis and innovation in function.
- Accountable for recruitment, line management and team resource management, people development through coaching and rewarding performance.
- Acts as a source of knowledge in area of expertise, defining and communicating important initiatives across department and functions.
- Identifies opportunities to improve the methodology and provides practical solutions for problems.
- Represents AstraZeneca and its function at external events and may represent in external working groups.
- Ensure computer system validation compliance for SASP production tools for audit ready state
Essential
- BSc, BA or post graduate qualification (or local equivalent) in Mathematics, Statistics, Informatics, Life or Social Sciences or equivalent experience.
- Experienced in leading efficiencies and improvements in programming utilities and tools.
- Extensive SAS programming expertise.
- Excellent knowledge of analysis and reporting within clinical development.
- Experience of data management within clinical development.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- Excellent collaboration skills.
- Ability to apply programming expertise to problem solving and quality focused.

- The ability to proactively drive innovations.
- Embracing of peer review.
- Understanding of compliance principles preferably supported with an audit experience.
Desirable
- Understanding of other programming languages (e.g. R, Java, Groovy, Spotfire, C/C++, VBA/VBS, .NET, Python, Pearl) would be advantageous.

- Knowledge of the latest technical expectations.
