MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understanding the IP laws and regimes in China and internationally, in particular for patents and trade secrets
  • Exposure to all areas of IP, with a focus on patents and trade secrets
  • Researching IP related issues in China and internationally, and presenting research results in written memoranda and/or orally
  • Communicating and otherwise working directly with clients in various industries, including large multi-national organisations and domestic Chinese companies
  • Assisting clients on patent and trade secret matters, including strategic advice, civil and administrative infringement litigation, invalidation proceedings, due diligence, licensing and other IP related transactions, etc.
  • Preparing and reviewing legal and commercial documents in English and Chinese, and translating documents as needed
  • Preparing papers and presentations on IP topics and otherwise supporting client development activities

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
  • China lawyer’s bar qualification (preferably with China patent bar qualification and/or US lawyer’s bar qualification)
  • 3 - 5 years' post qualification experience
  • Experience in the area of patents, trade secrets, IP litigation and/or licensing
  • Native Mandarin Chinese with excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese
  • Technical background in the area of electrical engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering and/or mechanical engineering (or the like)
  • Working experience in an international law firm preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Reliable and professional manner
  • High standard of client service and responsiveness
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
