The purpose of the Licensed Vocational Nurse in occupational health is to maintain the health, safety, and productivity of Amgen staff by providing superior clinical services.
The incumbent will possess an active LVN license, report to, and work in close collaboration with the Amgen occupational health (OH) lead for Amgen San Francisco. Experience in occupational health, Urgent/Emergent Care, or medical office practice is preferred. Responsibilities include drawing blood, basic patient care, and performing administrative duties that support research and clinic activities.
Job duties, under general direction:
- Perform LVN level assessment and management of work-related injury/illness
- Perform phlebotomy, administer immunizations, and TB skin test placement.
- Facilitate return to work and workers’ compensation programs
- Perform assigned tasks that support medical surveillance and corporate health and wellness programs
- Carry out online ordering, maintaining supplies, and department audits
- Participate in site medical emergency and disaster preparedness activities
- Assist with OH compliance with State, Federal, OSHA, and workers compensation compliance regulations as applicable
- Comply with ethical, legal, professional requirements, corporate policies, and procedures
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Amgen colleagues, patients, and OH partners
Position requirements
- Active LVN license in the state of California
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience. Occupational and Environmental Health experience, Urgent/Emergent care, public health, or medical office practice strongly preferred
- Excellent phlebotomy skills, certificate desired
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR/AED) Certification
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree OR
- Associate’s degree and 4 years of experience OR
- High school diploma / GED and 6 years of experience
Knowledge & skill requirements
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to organize and rapidly prioritize responsibilities in response to clinical needs
- Knowledge of OH and safety principles for establishing and maintaining a safe work environment
- Understanding of workers compensation, claim filing, case management, OSHA regulations, and OSHA recordkeeping
- Computer literacy in Microsoft office, competency with electronic medical records, supply ordering, and lab test requisition systems
- Fluency in medical terminology and basic medical history taking
- Vital sign measurement, basic first aid and wound care
- Basic immunization and TB skin testing techniques
- Basic knowledge of bloodborne pathogens, infection control, disinfection procedures
- Minimum 3 years of experience preferred in a medical setting performing phlebotomy, specimen handling, labeling, and other patient care functions
