Associate Principal Scientist - HTS

Location:  Alderley Park with relocation to Cambridge, UK

We are looking to recruit a Principal Scientist or Associate Principal Scientist with expertise in biostatistics and/or image analysis computational methods with a focus on applying this experience to very large data sets to join our Global High Throughput Screening (HTS) Centre in Alderley Park, prior to relocation to a new, state-of-the-art R&D centre in Cambridge. HTS is the only department within our world-leading pharmaceutical business that focuses unequivocally on hit identification. Our HTS centre aids the definition of screening cascades in discovery programmes, uses cutting-edge assay technologies to generate high-quality screening data and delivers robust data packages to pursue tractable hit series. What you'll do

As an experienced member of the High Throughput Screening department you will have specific accountability for developing statistical and computational methods to analyse HTS data sets to identify and extract the information to identify compounds of interest. You will be expected to champion the use of computational methods internally as well as represent HTS and AZ externally. You will also supporting scientific development of the department across all areas.

Essential Criteria

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry and drug discovery process
  • Well-developed understanding of molecular and cellular biology
  • A proven track record in the application of computational and/or statistical methods to large biological data sets ideally in a drug discovery setting.
  • Ability to drive the practical application of computational and/or statistical approaches to drug discovery.
  • A history of scientific publication/presentation.

Location

This role will initially be based at  Alderley Park, Cheshire prior to the group relocating to Cambridge so you must be committed to moving with this role.

Desirable Criteria

  • An advanced degree in a related field and/ or professional certification
  • Ability to code in R
  • Ability to code in a language such as Python
  • Ability to query databases using SQL
  • Excellent communication skills to facilitate knowledge transfer to HTS scientists
  • Understanding of the analysis and interpretation of screening data
