Job Description

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Associate Research Scientist, are to: 

 

  • Plan, design, conduct and analyze in vitro and in vivo studies to validate and understand the biology of identified molecular targets under limited guidance;
  • Contribute to the establishment, development and maintenance of state-of-the-art in vitro and in vivo pharmacology platforms within the Pulmonary Drug Discovery laboratory;
  • Analyze and interprets results, systems or procedures, troubleshoots failed experiments, assays or procedures and overcome obstacles and develop alternative experimental approaches;
  • Recommend new and innovative solutions to problems utilizing knowledge of unit operations, scientific creativity, independent thought and proficiency;
  • Contribute to overall success of projects;
  • Work in a collaborative settings and mindset through daily interaction with collaborations partners and Bayer colleagues from all functions;
  • Interpret and effectively communicate scientific findings in one on one discussions and/or departmental meetings;
  • Manage labs regarding to ordering (chemicals, kits), setup and maintenance of research equipment;
  • Take responsibilities to ensure compliance with guidelines regarding lab safety (e.g. biosafety) and animal welfare;
  • Ensure that laboratory notebooks are consistently updated, audited and well-maintained;
  • Support the project teams to validate novel drug targets and characterize new molecular entities for the treatment of COPD and IPF.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • B.S. with at least six years of relevant experience OR M.S. with a at least four years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience in state-of-the-art in vitro and in vitro laboratory techniques (PCR, DNA and protein gel electrophoresis, Western blots, RNA preps, quantitative real-time PCR, mammalian cell (tissue) culture, transfect and infect cells with expression vectors, CRISPR - cas9 delivery in primary cells, organoid cultures, and precision cut lung slice studies, …);
  • Demonstrated ability to design and perform experiments, assays, methods development, validation, scale-up or operations;
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot problems requiring original thought;
  • Be able to apply scientific principles to the design and interpretation of scientific experiments;
  • Be able to solve routine to complex operation and scientific problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning;
  • Can prepare reports and interpretation and can interpret and discuss the results of complex experiments;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft suite of Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Fluency in English.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Understanding of fibrotic or inflammatory diseases.
