The Associate Scientist, Biology supports the Biology Department’s aims in translational science, clinical trial support, and pre-clinical drug development. This position involves hands-on execution of experiments, processing primary patient samples, maintaining equipment, preparing reagents, inventory management and other routine lab maintenance.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Works independently under the guidance of, and in conjunction with, supervising Senior Scientist to design experiments, develop novel assays, and accomplish the goals of the laboratory.
  • Performs bench level laboratory work, which includes performing calculations, preparing reagents, operating analytical instruments, and maintaining accurate records in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.
  • Assumes responsibility for general laboratory maintenance and housekeeping, including organization of laboratory reagents, keeping track of deliveries, managing inventory, and maintaining laboratory stocks, cultures, or cell lines.
  • Processes incoming whole blood samples from clinical studies in accordance with established SOPs and GCLP guidelines.
  • Organizes lab protocols, manuals, MSDS, patient sample records, and other materials.
  • Performs independent data analysis and effectively communicates results to the team, including preparation of graphs, charts, reports, or presentations.
  • Maintains laboratory records and compiles data on experiments and assays.
  • Utilizes literature reviews, protocols, networking and prior laboratory experience to assist with experimental design, assay development, and workflow optimization.
  • May train work-study students, graduate students, contractors or other laboratory personnel.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of immunology, cancer biology and drug discovery.
  • Experience with cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and flow cytometry preferred.
  • Ability to perform laboratory mathematical calculations, including basic statistics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work well in a diverse team.
  • Physical and technical ability to operate laboratory equipment and handle liquid nitrogen.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work diligently in a dynamic environment.
  • Recent science graduates with Lab experience (internships, Lab Monitors etc.) are welcome to apply

Education/Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related discipline required.
  • At least 1 year of relevant laboratory experience required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
