The AbbVie Foundational Neuroscience Center (FNC) located in Cambridge, MA was established to investigate the biological mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Our scientists are using this understanding of disease processes along with state-of-the-art technologies to develop transformative treatment options for patients. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a passion for drug discovery. As an Associate Scientist, you will be responsible for generating and differentiating iPSC-derived neurons, using high content imaging to measure cellular changes corresponding to neurodegeneration, conducting exploratory experiments into basic disease biology, and working in multi-disciplinary teams to advance novel therapeutic approaches to the clinic. Key Responsibilities: Work with an existing team to derive, culture and differentiate multiple human iPSC lines into NPC’s and neuronal cultures Contribute to a team in performing primary neuron dissections and culture Coordinate with other scientists to design, execute, and analyze cell-based experiments utilizing immunocytochemistry and imaging techniques Formalize scientific contributions by maintaining detailed electronic laboratory notebooks, writing SOPs, and presenting at team meetings Maintain a healthy, safe, and inclusive work environment Qualifications Bachelor's or Master’s degree in cell biology, molecular biology, neuroscience or closely related field with typically 0-3+ (BS), or 0+ (MS) years of laboratory experience Extensive experience with iPSC and NPC culture. Preference for those with additional skills in primary neuron isolation. Proficiency with standard cellular and biochemical techniques including sterile tissue culture, microscopy, and gene transfer methods such as LNP and AAV is a plus Demonstrated excellence in planning, organizational skills and attention to detail Proven ability to understand, execute and interpret critical experiments and generate reproducible results Excellent written and verbal communication skills Commitment to teamwork with a penchant to work productively and creatively in a multi-disciplinary environment Familiarity with standard Microsoft applications, statistical packages, and gene editing software Significant Work Activities N/A Travel No Job Type Experienced Schedule Full-time Job Level Code IC Equal Employment Opportunity At AbbVie, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients.
