They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments. This position is based at AbbVie’s new South San Francisco, CA location. The Biologics Discovery Sciences group at AbbVie is seeking a highly-motivated research scientist to join a dynamic team supporting biologics drug discovery. This position will impact projects through the discovery and engineering of biopharmaceutical products such as monoclonal antibodies. The ideal candidate should have direct experience with molecular techniques and binding assays (e.g., ELISA or Octet). Other desirable skills include in vitro display technologies (e.g, phage display), experience with antibody engineering, and familiarity with sequence analysis tools and molecular modeling software. The applicant should be able to analyze, document, and report data. She/he should possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable presenting in group settings. Responsibilities • Execute antibody phage library panning for antibody discovery campaigns • Design and tune phage display platform technologies for antibody discovery and engineering • Conduct and optimize molecular biology workflows • Design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments • Collaborate effectively with team members and leaders • Interpret, present and communicate concepts and results, both orally and in writing, to colleagues and management. Qualifications Position will be hired based on level of experience. BS or MS in biology or related field with 3-5+ years (BS), or 0-2+ years (MS) of pharmaceutical and/or relevant experience Strong molecular biology skills (PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, plasmid prep, gel extraction, cloning, Sanger sequence analysis, NGS sequence analysis). Experience with bacterial cell culture Excellent oral and written communication skills Keen ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative research Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Team player with the ability to operate in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment Adapt to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines Competency with software programs, including MS Excel, Powerpoint, Word Preferred: Hands-on experience with in vitro antibody discovery display technologies (e.g., phage, yeast display) Experience in antibody engineering and optimization (e.g., humanization, Fc optimization) Familiarity with sequence analysis tools Understanding of protein structure and function Experience with antibody library design and construction Proficiency with the software programs Prism, Geneious, Sequencher, Genedata Significant Work Activities and Conditions Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of the team to enable higher performance.
