Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role, the Veterinary Associate Scientist that will be a part of the progressive and dynamic Comparative Medicine team.  The successful candidate will work onsite at our Thousand Oaks, CA site.

Are you a highly motivated and skilled veterinary associate scientist and a great team player? The Translational Safety & Bioanalytical Sciences (TS&BA) group needs you! Our team is in charge of leading all aspects of animal health care for a multi-species research colony, championing innovative and translationally relevant animal models to advance critical therapies to patients.

  • Ensure flawless animal care and welfare championing the “3 Rs” principles.
  • Triage clinical cases, provide clinical care, and maintain clinical records for a variety of species including USDA regulated species under the direction of the site veterinarian.
  • Provide quality standard of veterinary care for multiple species including physical examinations, handling, dosing and sample collection in rodents and non-rodent species.
  • Communicate with investigators on animal health cases.
  • Provide innovation/opportunities for technique refinement and new techniques for rodent and non-rodent species.
  • Contribute to the development adherence and revision of clinical care guidance documents
  • Assist with Animal Health Surveillance and Environmental Enrichment Programs.
  • Implement laboratory animal care guidelines and regulations
  • Participate in group, departmental, and Amgen teams for improving process or other organizational endeavors.
  • Produce reports, posters, presentations, and other project communications, and contribute to manuscripts.

Basic qualifications

  • Master’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior In vivo experience
  • Clinical and surgical experience with canines is desired
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification
  • AALAS certification at the LATG level and/or other laboratory animal certifications
  • Previous clinical experience conducting animal research
  • Strong leadership, written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • High proficiency with basic and advanced in vivo techniques for multiple animal species
  • Working knowledge of The Guide, USDA regulations, AAALAC and veterinary best practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Open to learn new skills and adapt
  • Ability to work independently
