Job summary

Red Hat's Products and Technologies (PnT) DevOps team is looking for an Associate System Administrator to join us Beijing, China. In this role, you will have an opportunity to work with innovative hardware as part of an established team as we evolve a development environment to integrate new testing methodologies. Your primary areas of responsibility will include receiving hardware from the shipping dock, checking it against established receiving procedures, upgrading firmware in a Red Hat engineering facility under the guidance of savvy admins, and performing asset management data entries within the inventory system. As an Associate System Administrator, you should have prior system administration skills, but that is not a requirement, as this is an entry-level opportunity for someone eager to develop their career as a Linux system administrator. This role is ideal for anyone interested in Linux or open source who has previously performed operating system installs or a CPU or memory upgrade and flashed their own firmware.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Receive, check in, rack, and stack servers
  • Troubleshoot technical issues
  • Respond to engineering requests through our ticketing system
  • Maintain and administer hardware, including configuration changes and upgrading firmware
  • Perform other administrative work related to labs

Required skills

  • Prior experience in computer operations, system administration, or a closely related area
  • Basic knowledge of, or experience with Linux or UNIX
  • Ability to lift, carry, squat, and bend and lift up to 75 pounds of equipment
  • Motivated to advance in the information technology (IT) profession; excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Good work ethic
  • Ability to learn and quickly grasp technical concepts; there will be people on hand for guidance
  • Good interpersonal communication skills; ability to explain simple procedures both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent written and verbal customer service skills
  • Detail-oriented and thorough when following procedures; ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Degree or certificate in computer science or a technology-related field is a plus
