Job Description

Associate Translation Line Manager

 

We are looking for a talented line manager with experience in the translation industry to join our rapidly growing in-house team. In this varied and exciting role, you will manage a team of translators and project coordinators, supporting and guiding them on a daily basis. You will be a key contributor to the personal development of team members and drive performance to ensure the achievement of office goals.

 Main Duties

1. Performance and team management

  • Monitoring and analysing KPI figures and addressing issues in order to make improvements
  • Monitoring and enhancing the quality of linguistic work produced by your team and organising development exercises as appropriate
  • Assessing quality performance and ensuring that any issues are actioned effectively
  • Ensuring that the team functions effectively as a vertical and as part of the wider office
  • Ensuring that all members of the team perform at a level appropriate to their career
  • Ensuring a strong sense of team spirit and teamwork
  • Ensuring adherence to SDL & English Language Office processes and procedures
  • Demonstrating an awareness of the financial targets for the assigned vertical and ensuring the team is working in the most efficient way

 

2. Career development

  • Conducting regular 1-2-1s; adapting your approach as necessary to suit individuals
  • Conducting regular appraisals for your team
  • Providing constructive linguistic feedback and direction
  • Identifying training and development needs
  • Providing motivation and direction
  • Creating opportunities for professional growth

 

3. Liaising with the management team

  • Providing feedback on general English Language Office performance and strategy and generating ideas and solutions
  • Preparing for and contributing to management meetings
  • Working collaboratively with the management team to generate and share ideas and ensure a consistent line management approach

 

Skills and Experience

  • Translation industry experience is essential
  • Experience mentoring or overseeing colleagues
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to build relationships and motivate others
  • The ability to liaise comfortably and effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Solution orientated
  • Creative thinking
