If so, Microsoft Corporation has an immediate opening at its global headquarters in Redmond, Washington for a dynamic, highly motivated attorney to join the team supporting Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios within the Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Gaming team.
This attorney position will play a key role in supporting our first party Xbox Game Studios. This includes business teams who are responsible for developing and creating state of the art video games for PCs, Xbox consoles and Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass and xCloud services. Working closely with other front-line CELA Gaming, Business Development partners, and Regulatory Affairs, the Gaming attorney will provide strategic legal and business advice relating to our Xbox Gaming music strategy, including negotiating and licensing music rights for use in games on our Xbox platforms and services.

Responsibilities
- Provide front-line counseling and advice to business executives and others on a broad range of complex legal and business issues related to inbound licensing of music rights for games on our Xbox platforms and services
- Provide strategic advice on developing and structuring a global music licensing program that supports our Xbox Game Pass and xCloud streaming services
- Draft and negotiate transactional documents, including agreements related to strategic third-party music partnerships for supporting our first party game development and all up xCloud gaming services
- Review and amend past agreements as needed for distribution on our Xbox Game Pass and xCloud streaming services
- Collaborate with internal and external legal and policy specialists to help analyze and address legal and regulatory issues and implement resulting business and legal strategies for engaging with music licensing organizations
- Help lead and/or significantly contribute to cross-group projects related to music and content licensing rights
Qualifications
- J.D. or equivalent from an ABA accredited law school, an active license to practice law, and at least 7 years as a practicing commercial/business attorney or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of the various rights associated with the music industry and copyright, including experience interfacing with music licensing organizations
- Significant experience drafting and negotiating music rights deals
- Outstanding analytical, organizational, writing and oral communication skills, as well as a strong record of effective cross-group collaboration in a diverse and matrixed environment
- Keen business sense, with the ability to think strategically and find creative business-oriented solutions to legal issues, balancing legal risks against business interests in complex and ambiguous situations
- Strong results orientation with a dedicated client focus and ability to establish a trusted advisor relationship with business clients
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations
- Ability to work independently while also being a strong collaborator
- Passion for gaming and technology.
