How will you make an impact?

An Automation Engineer III position is available in the Protein and Cell Analysis R&D group in Carlsbad, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to create a brand-new role in R&D and lead the automation efforts toward the development of new products. You will be responsible for engaging with both the Bioconjugation Chemistry team and the New Technologies Biology team in efforts to automate the chemical modification of antibodies with fluorescent dyes and the preparation and testing of cells for flow cytometry applications, respectively.
 
What will you do?             
  • Responsible for leading R&D efforts in robotic liquid handling toward the automation of dye/chemical modification of antibodies
  • Responsible for leading R&D efforts in robotic purification of modified antibodies
  • Responsible for leading R&D efforts in automated cell staining and washing
  • Responsible for leading R&D efforts in automated sample processing via flow cytometry
  • Design and implement automation methods to support the Development of new dyes for Flow Cytometry applications
  • Document procedures, write Manufacturing Batch Records, and assist in Technology Transfer of new products and methods to the Operations Team
  • Cross-training other scientists in automation methods
  • Work as part of the team to learn the chemistry and the biology behind the products that we create
  • Accept responsibilities assisting the team in laboratory maintenance
How will you get here?
 
Education 
  • B.S. with a minimum of 6 years industrial experience or a M.S. with a minimum of 2 years industrial experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, automation engineering or related field is preferred.
Education 
  • Preference will be given to any candidate demonstrating a background in the use of JANUS or Biomek Liquid Handling robots
  • Experience in product development, validation, and technology transfer to manufacturing
  • Experience reviewing and revising technical documentation
  • GMP experience is a plus
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work effectively both face-to-face and with remote staff
  • Strong ability to collaborate and influence within a matrix organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
