The Automation Technician will be required to perform troubleshooting, project support, maintenance, and on-call triage in support of a biologics manufacturing facility, which operates 24/7. The technician will perform functions within PLC and DCS-based control structures. This job requires a working knowledge of control networking, including physical and virtual server infrastructure. perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance, and repairs to instrument systems and components of laboratory equipment, production equipment, central utilities and building management systems.
Responsibilities:
Automation Technician III
- Assist/lead training and development of other facility departments in automation discipline.
- Lead change control and Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) execution by timely completion of tasks.
- Participate in NC Investigations as a member of the investigation team.
- Support 24X7 as primary on-call support.
- Considerable knowledge of the job. Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
- Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
- Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of advanced scope and complexity.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in non-standardized situations.
- Contributes to the completion of major milestones associated with specific projects. Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays in program schedules and may result in the allocation of additional resources.
- Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
Automation Technician IV
- Assist/lead training and development of other facility departments in automation discipline.
- Assist/lead training and development of new and current Automation Technicians.
- Lead change control and Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) execution by timely completion of tasks.
- Participate in NC Investigations as a member of the investigation team.
- Participate in new project development and planning, including associated change control meetings.
- Support 24X7 as primary on-call support.
- Extensive knowledge in specialized functions. A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
- Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.
- Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organizational objectives.
- Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
- Leads the completion of major milestones associated with specific projects. Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays in program schedules and may result in the allocation of additional resources.
- Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
- Accomplishes results through peer relationships with experienced employees who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments.
Qualifications:
Automation Technician III
Education:
- HS diploma, GED, technical school graduate, or military training and experience in automation.
Required:
- Minimum of five (5) years applicable experience (automation, logic controllers, equipment automation)
- Knowledge of electronic theory and its application.
- Knowledge of control network troubleshooting, implementation, maintenance, and design – DH Network, Device Net, ControlNet, and Foundation Fieldbus.
- Knowledge of maintenance, programming, and development of PLC software and PID control loops.
- Knowledge of motor controls troubleshooting, programming, and maintenance – VFDs and DC drives.
- Knowledge of ethernet network monitoring, device replacement, and configuration.
- Knowledge of automation server monitoring, maintenance, and deployment.
- Demonstrated capabilities in the areas of: Digital electronic displays and instrumentation
- Pneumatic experience
- Written and verbal communication skills and Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Proficient in computer skills and MS Office applications
- Demonstrated ability to adhere closely to all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times, adhere to schedules, and interface in a constructive manner with all vendors, contractors, associates, peers, and managers.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred:
- Minimum of one (1) year industry experience (pharmaceutical)
- Training/certifications on PLC systems and HMIs with emphasis on Allen Bradley and Siemens BMS systems.
Automation Technician IV
Education:
- HS diploma, GED, certificate of completion at a 2-year technical school, or experience in plant or equipment maintenance, or military training and majority of experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
Required:
- Minimum of five (5) years of applicable experience (automation, logic controllers, equipment automation)
- Knowledge of electronic theory and its application.
- Knowledge of control network troubleshooting, implementation, maintenance, and design – DH Network, Device Net, ControlNet, and Foundation Fieldbus.
- Knowledge of maintenance, programming, and development of PLC software and PID control loops.
