Job Description
Job Summary Lead automation projects for the Plant through the internal automation project area and external suppliers as needed. Develop and implement project management activities to drive capital projects and industrialization of new products, and capacity improvement for the Plant. Lead toolroom staff and activities to build internal components for machine development, machine spare parts, maintenance, fixtures, workstations for layouts, and machine improvements. New technology introduction to improve safety, quality, productivity, and flexibility for the operation. Lean manufacturing and EQS deployment, MESH initiatives, and product and quality cost improvements. Job Responsibilities Responsible for the automation development group to support initiatives of capacity and flexibility improvement, layout improvements, and new product introduction. Direct supervision of highly skilled technicians and coordinators to build local automated equipment in compliance with Machine Guarding and Electrical standards. Responsible for acquisition and development of automation initiatives with external vendors; develops project specs, quotes, support purchase agreements negotiation, capital requests, and manage execution through project management tools. Lead Capital Plan initiatives assigned for the Plant. Development of Capital Appropriation Request (CAR) and support other peers serving as a coach. Manage capital budget and project execution by applying Project management tools and skills. Responsible for the direct supervision of the Toolroom area including automated machining as CNC lathes and mills, laser marking, vision system, and other technology to support the quality of the machining parts. Manage service requests to ensure execution in a timely manner. Build spare parts for preventive/corrective maintenance activities and development of fixtures and other parts as requested. Lead a team of project technicians to design machines and parts using Solidworks and other CAD software as requested. Develop and execute factory acceptance test (FAT) and measurement system analysis (MSA) procedures for new automated machine validation. Support new layouts or layout changes where new/modify machines, transfer conveyors, or workstations are required. Support Continue improvement initiatives through standardized process flow, tier meetings, TPM tools, 5S, risk assessment and participation on VSM. Safety responsibilities include safety and housekeeping objectives; following all safety rules and procedures and reporting unsafe conditions to line management. Support development of risk assessment. Support EQS initiative by revision and compliance of policies with stress on follow-up of FMEA, Error Proofing, and Control Plans. External Contacts: Suppliers to develop quotes for automated equipment such as welding, lasers, assembly process and test equipment. External vendors for purchasing electrical/pneumatic components and machining parts developers (DR and or USA or other) Maintenance and technical support depend on the machine manufacturer. #LI-MM3 Qualifications Qualifications Preferred education level: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering related fields. Years and area of experience required: A minimum of 5 years of experience is required in manufacturing engineering-related areas. Technical knowledge: Strong knowledge in design and development of parts, machines, and interaction with new machines and new technology implementation. Experience managing and executing projects related to industrialization, layouts, or machine development. Experience in design and construction of parts through CNC, EDM, and another manual machining of parts. Experience managing maintenance activities, and installation of new equipment. Knowledge of controls engineering, programming, and automation troubleshooting (Ladder/Control Logics, PLC, SCADA, HMI) Bilingual (English/Spanish) Computer applications skills; Microsoft Office and preferred MS Project, any CAD and CAM software.
