Job Description

BMW Group Plant Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines, and precision machining key engine components, the plant has recently celebrated 20 years of successful production. Operating seven days a week, with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in BMW Group’s global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles.

 

Communications and Events Placement


If you’re a bright, energetic and creative student who is seeking an exciting challenge for your placement year, then we have an exceptional opportunity for you. We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate people to join the busy communications team based at our Hams Hall engine manufacturing plant, working across communications and events. Communication to our employees and key stakeholders is central to our success and this placement is a fantastic chance to develop your career in communications, working for the world’s leading premium automotive manufacturer.

What will you be doing? 

  • Taking ownership for creating and writing engaging content and publishing it across various media channels (including our employee app and digital signage).

  • Being involved in the planning, organisation and execution of events across the plant for both internal and external visitors.
  • Taking the lead on working with our house charity to bring our partnership to life, creating awareness and enthusing engagement among our workforce.  
  • Ensuring we stay updated with the latest BMW Group standards by improving and introducing new and innovative communication channels.
  • Managing administration activities and assisting with photo archiving, escorting photographers / film crews and updating plant information.

  • Liaising with employees of all levels across the departments including those office based and on the shop floor.

 

  • Studying towards a Bachelor's degree in Business, Media, Communications, Marketing, Events Management, English, Social Sciences or another related field and on track to receive a 2:2 or above.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated passion for engaging with and building relationships with people.
  • You will need to be flexible with working hours and potential travel to other BMW Group sites in the UK (full driving licence required) to support various projects and events.

  • Awareness and interest in current affairs with an eye for what makes an attractive potential story.
  • Basic photography and photo editing skills- further digital media skills would enhance your application.
  • Ambition to use and learn about a range of IT software and content management systems.
  • Resilient with excellent organisation skills and a 'hands on', proactive approach.
