The Challenge
  • A change management job where people need to be shown/explained the needs, benefits and fun to conduct continuous quality improvement.
  • A staff job with limited direct hierarchical power, but with challenging targets towards quality awareness and improvement to be reached within the functional line organizations.
  • A key function in a multi-site, multi-plant, multi-product and multi-cultural business environment
  • Communication over all functional disciplines and departments, on different sites in different regions.
The Position
a) Key areas of accountability/responsibility
1. Define BU quality strategy and governance and develop BU global quality guidelines to assure its quality products in line with customer requirements and compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements
2. Be responsible to propose new quality tools and systems (Lean and Six Sigma) in order to increase our current quality level to the demands and needs of our current and future customers. This includes an implementation plan.
3. Introduce “Quality Thinking Mentality/Behavior” throughout the total organization and actively promote the organizational awareness on Quality and its related programs
4. Develop a consistent management system to drive and monitor continuous quality improvement
• Ensure proper anchoring of Quality in each function.
• Define quality KPI’s and use them (as well as complaints) to detect quality issues in each function.
• Ensure that quality improvement possibilities in and between each function are translated into concrete actions and improvement projects and monitor progress thereof.
5. Assure that the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 and international GMP are being followed in order to keep the certification thereof.
6. Set up and monitor the global internal audit plan and align with the DSM Corporate Requirements.
• Check at random the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
• Report structural deviations to the responsible process owner.
Prepare and participate with external audits (certification audits) and supplier audits.
Prepare and lead the audits performed by customers.
7. Provide quality training in the organization.
8. Lead Quality Management Reviews for the BU Leadership Team
9. Be responsible for proper proposals regarding quality elements in the work processes.
10. Be responsible for the global complaint handling – design and maintain a global complaint handling (customers and suppliers) policy and system. Develop improvement programs with the aim to reduce (number and costs of) complaints.
Chair the Monthly Complaint Meeting for each business segment, which monitors the complaint process using KPI’s as lead time, complaints per department, repetitive complaints, quality improvement programs, etc.
11. Support all line managers towards improving or implementing transparent work processes in order to secure the supply of prime product world wide without disturbances.
12. Be responsible for the determination of the customer satisfaction process and for the execution of the customer satisfaction surveys, by monitoring the results thereof and translating them into improvement actions, and by visiting customers in order to get better understanding of customer needs and expectations.
13. Be the Quality focal point representing BU to communicate Quality issues, performance and enforce necessary improvements
- Provide support-directly or indirectly- for customer audits at BU manufacturing sites - at the request of the Business Manager.
- Keep updated with changing trends in quality compliance including meeting legal & regulatory demands by attending relevant international symposia and training courses.

14. Audit and qualify Tollers out of a quality perspective.
SHE & Security
• It is the responsibility of each employee to work in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace.
• Complies with all job-related safety, security and other training requirements.
• Ensure that SHE regulations are in place and followed upon by making SHE a regular subject of discussion in team meetings and holding employees accountable for their SHE behavior/attitude.
• Report any SHE and Security incidents (including observed risks) to management
• Ensure that Security regulations and facilities are in place and followed upon and correctly used by monitoring this and making a Security a regular subject of discussion in team meetings and holding employees accountable for their Security behavior/attitude.
• Show behavior in line with the SHE and Security risks and agreed controls, including being compliant to DSM and DSM Dyneema requirements, rules and procedures.
• Address any person behaving in a SHE and Security irresponsible way.
b) Authorities
1. Execute the quality program, within the given budget.
2. Implement work processes which are obligatory for ISO 9001and ISO 13485.
3. Gather relevant information (Audit) within the organization to identify potential improvement areas.
4. Specific projects can be assigned by BU Quality manager
5. Address, challenge and follow up quality concerns/improvements.
c) Projects/special assignments
1. Act as project manager on assigned BU Quality projects
2. Integration of future M&A’s into DSM BU quality system
The Ideal
  • Bachelor level + (chemistry, food technology, microbiology or similar)
  • Knowledge of appropriate quality management and Food Hygiene standards
  • Professional and technical knowledge of production processes to ensure sound technical judgment on quality issues. Experience with projects as project manager
  • Operational and Quality Assurance experience in the industry of food additive, food/nutrition ingredients, specialty chemicals, or related
  • Experience of leading Q responsibility of manufacturing for no less than $100m (preferably $200m and above) business
  • Experience in leading projects and achieving results within International multi-cultural network, especially for the potential context of leading QM for Greenfield, M&A / integration
  • Expertise in quality systems (eg. ISO 9001; 2000. ISO 22000, ISO 14001 etc.)
  • Advanced problem solving and decision making on quality and technical issues.
  • Good leadership and coaching capability
  • Strong interpersonal skills and influencing capability
  • Open to challenges and can work under high pressure
  • Language efficiency: Fluent Mandarin & English in both oral & written
