Eaton’s Battery CoE accelerate the company’s growth through the development of battery platforms that are battery-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable, as well as standardized design methodologies and tools that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provides a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products with energy storage. Eaton’s Battery Center of Excellence (CoE) is currently seeking a Battery System EE Specialist to join our team. This position is based at our Raleigh, NC location and is open to a Hybrid work schedule. The position is offering relocation assistance. Position Overview: The Battery System EE Specialist will be responsible for leading all aspects of the design and development of battery platforms. The Battery System Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the battery platforms meet the battery module and rack requirements for various applications such as UPS or energy storage applications. This engineer will also be responsible for driving all battery platform development activities. This will require the Battery System Specialist to interface with mechanical design, thermal design, electrical design, harness design, and battery management system (BMS) FW/SW development. In this function you will: Translate application requirements into battery platform requirements, including electrical, mechanical, thermal, environmental, reliability, and cost requirements Review battery supplier specifications (e.g., battery cells and modules) Technically lead the design and development of state-of-the-art battery platforms by working with mechanical, electrical, FW/SW, and testing engineers Develop test plans and procedures, identify hardware needs, and design test set-ups for battery platform validation Perform battery cell and module testing for characterization Develop battery models for performance and lifetime Lead battery platform FMEA activities Perform battery technology scouting and industry trend study Support business divisions for successful adoption of battery platforms for the end products Support business divisions and supply chain management in supplier management and development When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor's in engineering or science from an accredited institution Minimum 8 years of experience with Lithium batteries Minimum 5 years of experience in developing specifications and requirements for battery modules and packs/racks Minimum 5 years of experience in developing battery modules and packs/racks by working with mechanical, thermal, electrical, FW/SW, and testing engineers Preferred Qualifications: Master's in engineering or science Battery product development experience, including cell qualification and UL certification Experience in project planning and tracking Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members Design for Six Sigma certification Bilingual in English/Korean or English/Chinese Position Criteria: Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual. Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented, global, and diverse environment. Understanding of different types of battery technology, their performance, and characteristics Direct experience testing lithium battery cells, modules, and packs/racks Understanding of battery management system (BMS) requirements and functionality Experience with safety, compliance, and regulatory standards (UL1642, UL1973, UL9540, etc.) Customer-focused with good relationship building and communication skills Strong written communication and verbal communication skills 10% domestic and international required.
