Post-launch LCM.  With 2021 investment of ~$3bn you with look at both short term and longer-term delivery of the portfolio.

You will manage a team of senior finance professionals who are responsible for the portfolio analysis and analysis of development projects across early and late Biopharmaceutical drug project portfolios, to ensure that portfolio decisions are taken with high quality strategic and financial input. You will focus on developing the team, driving incremental process improvements and providing project insights to senior stakeholders.

You will be accountable for the portfolio view of projects cost forecasts, risk profile and value elements. Providing in-depth analysis and evaluation of the portfolio and the regular monitoring of investment versus budget.  You will be required to ensure that you apply your understanding of the portfolio and balance across the early and late stage projects and relative risk profiles.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Manage, develop and coach a team of approximately 10 finance professionals
  • Accountable for the quality and consistency of project evaluations in accordance with the agreed evaluation methodology
  • Lead the development of valuation skills and methodologies for R&D projects, ensuring best practices are developed and shared and key assumptions consistently applied
  • Lead the finance input into portfolio reviews and annual TA strategy ensuring high quality financial are delivered; risks and opportunities assessed at a total R&D unit level to support strategic discussion and decision making
  • Lead the portfolio inputs into the annual planning cycle coordinating across the Therapy Area Finance teams and the Project Finance group to deliver high quality forecasts; ensure delivery to targets across the total BioPharma project spend budget through influence and coordination across finance and portfolio groups in R&D BioPharma
  • Establish a climate that delivers innovative financial analysis and of projects that supports decision making by the Global Product Teams and provides senior management with insight to key project financial issues
  • Provide flexible deployment of finance resources to ensure they are aligned to the key risks and decisions.
  • Lead the preparation of the portfolio view of projects costs and risk adjustment methodology 
  • Provide EVP Biopharmaceuticals and VP Finance BioPharmaceuticals with strategic financial advice, support and challenge to project strategy, plans and investment decisions
  • Champion good cost management during the planning and execution of clinical plans and ensure teams are engaging and leveraging productivity initiatives in design of clinical programmes.
  • Provide input to all governance body papers, leading the preparation of the financial sections.
  • Ensure senior finance leaders are appropriately briefed ahead of key decision points, including the Group CFO and other Finance VPs as required.
  • Coordinate Post Deal Management finance support for deals that fall within the responsibility of GPTs and eGPTs within BioPharmacuticals

Minimum Requirements – Education and Experience

  • The role holder will be a qualified finance professional or equivalent with a minimum 5 years post-qualification experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of global and corporate business context
  • Experience of leading a finance team and being a global leader
  • In-depth experience of project or product evaluation
  • Experience of working in a global pharmaceutical organisation
  • In depth experience of either drug development life cycle and/or commercial is essential
  • Strong conceptual thinking linked to an understanding of business operations
