Job Description

Responsibilities:

  1. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with all stakeholders of the biomedical technology cluster of HKSTP, including but not limited to academia, researchers, and business clients
  2. Manage operations of the HKSTP Biobank
    1. Contribute to the lab setting-up, develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures, protocols, technical notes, guidelines and flow charts
    2. Monitor and track the logistics and handling of repository samples
    3. Monitor repository storage equipment and respond to monitoring alarms
    4. Handle biological samples for reception, accessioning, inventory and retrieval
    5. Processing and handling of frozen samples and cryopreservation samples
    6. Investigate, report and document deviations in practice of daily operation
    7. Maintain quality and good laboratory practices
    8. Coordinate and ensure privacy and security are maintained
    9. Coordinate quality assurance, audits, inventory verification
    10. Responsible for procurement and interact with suppliers
  3. Assist / plan, coordinate and organize biobank-related projects – interact with clients to resolve roadblocks and assist in working through logistics or operational problems pertaining to biological sample management
  4. Assist in management and development of staff, methods and processes to continue biobank compliance and accreditation
  5. Have a strong team work ethics and be a team player to ensure a high level of productivity and comply with regulations.
  6. Communicate with other labs/parties as needed
  7. Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors and management


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor or Master degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Chemistry or related life science discipline
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in life science laboratory
  • Experience in molecular biology, protein purification, nucleic acid extractions, Next-Generation Sequencing, cell imaging, micro-organism and mammalian cell manipulation, would be preferred
  • Certification: Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) Part II/I license is desirable
  • Technical: Previous laboratory experience in a clinical or contract laboratory environment is preferred
  • Others: Exceptional analytical and problem solving capabilities. Must be able to perform effectively as a team member, accurately record data, follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Project management skills, able to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Communicate effectively and interact in a professional manner with management, coworkers and clients. Team building and constituents in industry, academia researchers, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – Proficient in both written and spoken English and Chinese
  • High level of proficiency in the use of standard software and be able to quickly learn and utilize computer programs as needed
  • Candidate with less experience will be considered for lower position
