How will you make an impact?

This is a key position in the Transplant Diagnostics R&D Molecular Typing team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a broad team of lab scientists and software engineers to build cutting-edge technologies and develop innovative molecular diagnostics products.

The successful candidate will develop, improve, and maintain tools, pipelines, and software for the analysis of complex data from NGS and other molecular platforms. This role will work in collaboration with the research staff and other departments, and requires knowledge of bioinformatics, biostatistics, molecular biology, as well as the ability to quickly grasp new disciplines. This role will provide both strategic leadership and hands-on technical expertise.

What will you do?

  • Searching relevant sequence information from external sources for primer and probe design, as well as data mining of genomic libraries and genomes
  • Analyze and interpret complex experimental results and work hand in hand with lab scientists for the research and development of new molecular products.
  • Conduct genetic interpretation and application of results from NGS data.
  • Collect, clean, and manage data from various sources.
  • Collaborate with the internal software team to create software tools to assist in process efficiency where needed. Light scripting and programming work is expected.
  • Interact with Research, Production, software, and IT staff. May interact with customer support at times.

How will you get here?

Education and Experience

  • PhD from an accredited higher learning institution with studies in Bioinformatics, Life Sciences/Molecular Biology, or Computer Science AND 3 years of postdoctoral or industrial experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • A pragmatic self-starter who is proactive, self-motivated, and ambitious with a strong work ethic, ability to work in a dynamic environment, and able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining NGS bioinformatics analysis pipelines.
  • Proficient at Linux and programming languages, such as C#, Python, R, and SQL. working knowledge of cloud computing and the common bioinformatics tools and databases
  • Sound understanding of statistics and the ability to generate robust statistical models for predicting outcomes in multidimensional data.
  • Experience and understanding in wet lab techniques and principles in the field of Molecular Biology, Genetics, and/or Genomics.
  • Must be able to spend up to 5-10% time studying and performing wet lab experiments to thoroughly understand products and new projects.
  • Well-founded formal problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated skills in project management and formal continuous process improvement techniques
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people

  • Knowledge in immunology
