Job Description / Capsule

Is accountable for defining the Franchise strategy; coordinating the cross-functional TA and brand-level operational plans; and leading commercial team to drive optimal outcomes for patients who can benefit from our innovative medicines , establishing the ground for future Biologics. Is directly accountable for the success of the Franchise Marketing and Sales teams within the Biologics  Business unit, driving this through guidance on the needed strategic directions, competitive performance, guidance on local country activities needed, astute financial P&L management, cohesive global and local cross-functional working, reinforcing the AZ values of culture of scientific leadership and patient-centricity and contributing to AZ’s stated goal of being a “Great Place to Work”.

Typical Accountabilities

Building the Franchise

  • Ensures that franchise activities within the respective markets are compliant, aligned with global strategies and sanctioned by the appropriate stakeholders
  • Utilises a deep understanding of theBiologics/Specialty ecosystem, patient journey and payor needs to define and build an effective franchise team
  • Inspires the team to develop and utilise patient and customer understanding to challenge and innovate within their own roles and the wider AZ environment to ensure that AZ delivers innovative biologics medications to patients
  • Ensures that strong external relationships within theBiologics ecosystem are built and maintained with healthcare professionals
  • Builds high performing teams, ensuring that as recruit and enlarge our teams we create a culture focused on excellence in recruiting, training, development, and performance management
  • Works with the Marketing Director to develop short- to long-term strategy to ensure portfolio success

Shaping, developing & implementingBiologics franchise Strategy

  • Develops and translates the Global strategic long-term vision into a highly effective country plan that defines and delivers ‘value’ at multiple levels
  • Provides expert insight and direction across the franchise to ensure that all launches and line extensions within Biologics ( respiratory & Immunology) are expertly managed to deliver success
  • Oversees the creation of innovative and highly effective strategic brand plans across the franchise
  • Ensures operational implementation of these plans, analyzing, anticipating and, where possible, shaping marketplace changes whilst identifying and maximizing new growth opportunities
  • Determines, agrees and delivers upon Growth, Sales and Operational metrics, Measurements and Targets for the franchise team

Leadership and Capability Development

  • Inspires and leads the capability development for franchise team- Brand Managers, Sales Managers and their reports.
  • Ensures an innovative and cross-function account planning and customer engagement strategy is implemented and monitored
  • Ensures effective talent management, recruitment & succession planning within the franchise team
  • Sets ambitious goals for the employees of the Franchise team and ensure their cooperation with other departments of the company to achieve better results
  • Identifies strengths and development needs, motivate and train subordinates to improve their performance effectiveness and develop functional and leadership competencies.
  • Conduct annual goal setting and performance & Development check ins, feedback and coaching with subordinates according to corporate standards
  • Implements control measures to compare the actual results of the work performed with the goals and take appropriate action in case of deviations from the plan.
  • Analyze and resolve possible difficulties for the effective work of the team. Create challenges and inspire team to increase productivity.

Financial Planning

  • Manage A&P and reporting team variable costs
  • Ensure work & planning of the team is based on clear economic rationale and key activities are carried out within the budget
  • Manages resources to optimize investment and maximize returns
  • Generate annual sales and expense budgets
  • Consolidate feedback and forecasts from Brand Managers and provide regular forecasts for the budget and projected expenses at the end of the year, re-evaluating the budget in accordance with priorities, market conditions and a profound understanding of the products on the market.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 yrs of Marketing & Sales Management experience & at least a total of 7 years in the Pharmaceutical Industry
  • >3 yrs of solid Leadership & People Management experience
  • Sound Business knowledge of Pharmaceutical industry & Specialty experience/knowledge
  •  Experience in GCC ( either Gulf or Saudi)Experience in successful product launches with excellent understanding of the market and access.
  • Ability to drive results that outperform the market by driving strategic, financial and people performance
  • Demonstrate enterprise mind set and can-do spirit.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and hierarchies
  • Capability to lead change and transformation.
  • In depth understanding of the patient experience from diagnosis throughout the rest of their journey
  • Demonstrable Strategic approach within and clear evidence of innovation leading to success
  • Strong focus on effective decision making and results
  • Business Acumen with In depth understanding of Account Planning and Customer Engagement programme and processes

Desirable

  • Experience of solid, Respiratory & immunology / biological preparations
  • Experience of building successful cross-functional business units
  • Patient centricity - Understands and articulates across the franchise specific patient’s perspective from the moment of diagnosis and throughout their journey, Understands local or region cancer patient demographics, the patient journey and the available treatment choices and uses this information to challenge the status quo in order to deliver for the patient and AZ.
  • Customer value proposition - Challenges the team and helps them to craft the value proposition for the patients and all relevant stakeholders within the healthcare system for the franchise brands; Works closely withR&I Thought Leaders, Healthcare providers, Government officials and patient groups to explore innovative value propositions and models that enable patients to receive appropriate AZ treatments
  • Cross functional engagement - Leads the franchise cross-functional team to work collaboratively with the patient in mind to deliver success across the Biopharma Unit in AZ; Contributes fully by sharing information and linking insights to support collaborative problem solving for and with the  stakeholder / account
