Breeding Operations Manager

This position will be based in the Netherlands.

Your tasks and responsibilities

The Breeding Operations Manager is responsible for leading the operations employees at a site or group of sites in the Netherlands which executes breeding needs, with a focus on accelerating genetic gain, and supplies data to enable accurate and timely decisions in the advancement of vegetable products through the pre-commercial breeding pipeline. This position is accountable for planning all day-to-day operations.

Key deliverables include:
1) enable decisions that drive pipeline advancement and placement;
2) deliver our integrated product system commercial portfolios to address market needs with the highest data quality;
3) develop teams and people.

 

Key responsibilities include:

- Lead through change as member of an integrated station management team creating successful planning and execution for the entire year with a focus on continuous improvement;

- Oversee Head Count budgets in the station; ensure resources are properly allocated to deliver pipeline needs. Understands key business and financial parameters and their impact;

- Effective collaboration with Pipeline Enablement, Breeders, and Operations leadership responsible for successful planning and execution in weekly, monthly and yearly planning, organization and execution to generate needed crossing blocks, seeds and quality data for product advancement and efficient functioning of the breeding programs;

- Develop leaders to enable leadership focused on people and organizational development;

- Drives planning for resources including facilities, equipment, and personnel for effective and efficient functioning of vegetable R&D programs;

- Collaborate with the Trial Officers/commercial breeders, in needed operational support for any off-site breeding managed from the site;

- Facilitate an integrated team to execute field operations, drive quality data collection and entry into enterprise systems, and centralized continuous nursery programs;

- Participate in the hiring and supervision of salaried operations staff; administer the training, development and retention of personnel;

- Ensure that all employees in Operations fully implement all applicable local and Bayer Internal policies and programs including but not limited to HSE, QMS, regulatory and compliance protocols, and business conduct protocols;

- Ensure appropriate seasonal support to ensure correct execution of breeding and research needs.

 

Who you are?
To be successful in this position, you should bring along the following qualifications:

- BSc. in Plant Breeding, Crop Science or related field with 5 years of experience managing people and complex organizations;

- Ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment. Manages multiple projects and priorities;

- Develop talent and effectively leads teams through complex situations.  Proven leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to effectively achieve business results;

- Capacity to communicate and work effectively with all management levels in a multi-cultural organization;

- Strong strategic and analytical skills and understanding of how to apply them to achieve business results. 
- You have the required documents to work in the Netherlands.
