Job Description

Job Summary:

Responsible for the design and implementation of state of the art broadcast facilities for a global company that is at the forefront of technology. In this position, special emphasis is placed on design and implementation of all of DTCI’s content acquisition, origination, production, and distribution systems. The Systems Engineer will also develop and document technical procedures, train systems support and operational personnel, and provide expertise in resolving complex technical issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete design and implementation projects for DTCI’s broadcast facilities.
  • Lead in the design phases of new engineering projects, improvement of existing systems, specification of equipment procurement requirements, and implementation of complex broadcast systems.
  • Generate software solutions for content creation, manipulation, encoding/transcoding and distribution as well as for non-linear edit systems, video servers, storage solutions, file acquisition, file transcode, file transfer, media asset management and automation systems.
  • Lead in the creation, design, development, integration and testing of production workflows for a variety of platforms. This includes the selection of appropriate video/audio formats and bit rates.
  • Generate documentation required to support and operate company broadcast facilities.
  • Interface with equipment manufacturers and vendors regarding technical equipment designs and evaluate equipment to be purchased for the broadcasting facilities.
  • Oversee and coordinate assigned aspects of the construction of facilities and the installation of new equipment. This includes collaborating closely with installation engineers, equipment manufacturers and vendors, installation service contractors, Electronic System Support Engineers, technical operations staff, and others involved in the project.
  • Provide technical expertise required to support the Electronic System Support, Production Operations, and Transmission Operations departments in solving complex technical issues.
  • Maintain a high level of technical proficiency through review of trade journals and publications, contacts with manufacturers, membership in professional associations and attendance at relevant conventions and seminars.
  • Design, provide analysis, and write procedures to enhance present and future technical facilities.
  • Follow-up and resolve technically related problems through direct communication with other DTCI departments and outside companies.
  • May be assigned special projects as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of RF principles, fiber optics, and baseband video and digital compression and transport systems.
  • Knowledge of file transfer acceleration technologies and techniques. Understanding of video audio/video encoding/transcoding techniques and formats.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of RF principles, fiber optics, and baseband video and digital compression and transport systems.
  • Knowledge of file transfer acceleration technologies and techniques. Understanding of video audio/video encoding/transcoding techniques and formats.
  • Experience with Java, servlets and web applications.
  • Oracle SQL Experience (PL/SQL), MySQL experience.
  • Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, HTTP, UDP, SSL, and SNMP.
  • Experience using AutoCAD
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Required Education

  • 3- to 8-years broadcast engineering experience.
  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in broadcast facilities design and documentation.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science degree or a minimum of 5 years’ equivalent experience in broadcast facilities design and documentation is preferred.
