MAIN REPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

Lead development & execution of aligned Medical Affairs strategies & tactics to drive China RDM Business Development

Drive strong cross-functional, matrixed partnership with Global;Regional;China Upjohn Commercial; China Upjohn BD functions; China Upjohn Compliance and Legal

Drive strong cross-functional, matrixed partnership with Global/Regional/Country R&D (Medical Affairs, Project Management, Regulatory/CMC, afety, Pharmacovigilance)

Be a permanent member on the China BD Strategic Committee

Provide robust, timely, evidence-based Medical Affairs assessment of BD opportunities in Screening (unmet medical need vs standard of care, clinical differentiation, safety risks):

Start/lead assessment of the opportunity to gauge medical interest (value for patients and prescribers)

Align with Global/Regional/Country Commercial that the product is aligned with medical/commercial strategy, as needed; eliminate unviable opportunities early and reserve the application of further resources only to high potential, high impact, “must do” projects characterized by patients increasingly value the project output, competitors cannot easily replicate that value and communication is possible with customers.

Focus on medical/scientific merit and degree of technical and regulatory risk; rule out significant, high-level issues; identify key issues/risks (i.e., red flags) that help determine if further diligence is appropriate.

Ensure, empower & recognize robust Global/Regional/Country Medical Affairs SME and team input (unmet medical need; Product Profile - value proposition, differentiation; expected clinical uptake; risks to successful commercialization, risk mitigation, direct & indirect FTE/program Medical Affairs costs, market trends & new competitors) into different phases of asset evaluations (Screening, Pre-approval in Principle, Full Due Diligence) across therapeutic areas;

Proactively use insight and analytics to identify attractive external BD opportunities

Communicate & present BD opportunity evaluations to senior Global R&D and Commercial management – tailor and optimize briefing materials (PEH R&D LT BD Briefing Template) to improve robustness and efficiency of communications

REQUIRED SKILL SET

  • Technical
  • Therapeutic area knowledge: familiar with the disease knowledge and clinical practice.
  • Familiar with the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare environment in China
  • Language: excellent in oral and written English.
  • Strategic and logical thinking.
  • Strong Leadership capabilities, such as decision marking, problem solving, plan and implementation.
  • Excellent communication skill and strong influencing and negotiation skills.

  • Certifications

N/A

  • Education
  • Major in Clinical medicine. Medical Master or doctoral degree in medical is preferred.
  • Master of Business Administration is a plus.

  • Experience
  • Strong medical background and at least 5 years clinical practice experience.
  • At least 8-10 years pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • At least 6 years Medical Affairs experience.
  • General Marketing experience and/or experience in Medical or Business development is preferred but not a must
