Job Description
This position will be working with an Australian University (that is Murdoch) based at the Kaplan Shanghai office.

Key Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of this role is to represent Murdoch University’s international student recruitment interests in China. This position reports to the Regional Manager (North Asia) from the Office of External Engagement.
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will develop and maintain in-country links with stakeholders and partners in order to increase on-shore Chinese student enrolments. The BDM will develop and manage academic and other partnerships, including articulations, joint degrees and student mobility. This position requires a degree of independence and initiative.

Essential
• Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education/training and relevant experience.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Mandarin.
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant marketing and recruitment policies, procedures and legislation relevant to the higher education industry in Australia including, but not limited to, the ESOS Act.
• A good understanding of the Ministry of Education and university sector in China.
• Experience in establishing, developing and maintaining partnerships with Chinese government departments and with Chinese universities
• High level of organisational, time and workload management skills, including ability to prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent public speaking, negotiation and presentation skills.
• Highly effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to work outside normal working hours.

Desirable
• Study or work experience in an English speaking country or with a foreign business, in an English speaking environment.

Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Recruitment
• To source, develop and manage the recruitment of Chinese students to Murdoch University (Perth campus) through projects with Chinese universities (such as articulation programmes and via agent or other networks.
• In consultation with the International Engagement Manager (IEM) and the Regional Manager (RM), devise and implement a China recruitment strategy through a range of channels - institutions, agents and industry or government partners. The strategy will identify courses to target, appropriate tactics and activities, including both conventional and digital options.
• To analyse and rationalise existing agreements, networks and relationships.
• Assist students and staff with applications/enrolments, articulation programmes and general enquiries. This may include organizing seminars, pre-departure sessions as well as responding to ad hoc general enquiries.
• Work closely with the University’s international partners, including Kaplan and agents, to promote Murdoch University to prospective international students.
• Provide regular and comprehensive training for agents and Kaplan staff in respect of Murdoch University programs, entry requirements, policies and procedures.
• Develop and manage relationships with specific institutions and their representatives, and attend exhibitions, to recruit students and promote Murdoch University.
• Facilitate Murdoch University staff travel, as required.
• Conduct, interpret and make recommendations in response to market research into new student recruitment opportunities, with a focus on digital strategy.
• Coordinate the production of recruitment, marketing, and advertising activities and materials
• Provide regular reports and feedback regarding local market intelligence and provide recommendations regarding product development.

Professional Development
• Undertake continuous personal and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills as guided by Murdoch University.

Performance Management
• Participate in the University’s performance management program through annual performance reviews as guided by Murdoch University.


Technical Skills
• Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of specified University software packages and Microsoft Office applications.
• Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to marketing and recruitment activities for international students.

• Ensure that activities are undertaken with due regard to the University’s policies and procedures.

Policy Development
Assist the Director as required with the review, development and implementation of policy.

Systems and Process
Develop and manage specific advertising content for specified partners ensuring that it provides relevant, up to date information.
Conduct primary, secondary and tertiary market research and analysis.
