Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Continuous Improvement Engineer is accountable for executing operational excellence and continuous improvement across a diverse manufacturing environment. Using Lean & Six Sigma, project management methodologies, ProLaunch principles to rigorously drive improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost (Productivity) and Inventory. This person will take on an active role in defining and driving cost out initiatives to a successful outcome while working with a diverse team. In depth tool knowledge required of process improvement techniques, VA/VE, global benchmarking, cost models, including process design, facility layout, capital equipment and Supply chain solutions, including VMI, kanbans, supplier consignment stock and other tools. Individual will be required to have detailed knowledge of all projects current and future state including risks and implementation of mitigation activities. The position role is accountable to document cost out performance by assuring the Cost Out tracking is updated and aligned to meet objectives. The Continuous Improvement Engineer will use practical Lean methodologies that support the strategic goals for the plant. In this position, the incumbent will be responsible for leading and supervising all Rapid Improvement Events (RIE’s) and Kaizen events throughout the facility and driving all CIT (continuous improvement teams) activity. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Utilize the Eaton Lean Six Sigma system to improve the facilities overall performance, deploying Continuous Improvement principles and processes across Eaton’s Aerospace Plant Operation. Engage the plant workforce and drive a culture of continuous improvement for everyone. Develop and implement new or revised manufacturing methods in assigned area to reduce production costs, improve efficiency and eliminate waste. Accountable for managing and execute projects which will deliver a minimum of $50,000 in annual costs savings. Lead, facilitate, and execute projects using Lean & Six Sigma principles and processes to deliver results. Responsible to Lead, facilitate and implement one or several Lean tools through the ELSS Council in order to implement plant wide the correspondent tool according to the area and supports corporate improvement initiatives and reporting. Works with leadership to facilitate setting priorities, developing goals, and designing objectives related to operational excellence. Collaborate with process owners in the use of lean and statistical tools, approaches, and techniques to create process management and measurement systems and develop an Continuous Improvement mindset at all levels. Investigate and analyze production methods, processes and operations to determine manufacturing modifications or machinery improvements through CAPEX process that will increase production efficiency reduce costs and eliminate waste. Assist operations leadership in identifying and prioritizing opportunities to improve productivity throughout the business units. Effectively lead cross-functional teams in process improvement activities Responsible to lead, facilitate and execute Poka-yokes improvements through their areas and present them during the quarterly Aerospace group competition. Work with operations leadership and operational excellence resources to ensure best practices are shared across the organization. Observe and analyze high scrap or rework operation to determine causes. Advise concerned personnel of the results and recommend solutions to problems. Participate on Quality/Finance/HR/Safety initiatives that will enhance the Continuous Improvement culture through the organization. Participate on Project Deck Building initiatives (IDB, Brainstorming sessions, Transactional projects) to generate a project pipeline for the plant that will maintain a cadence for continuous Improvement. Obtain LEAN tool certifications according to Eaton´s Aerospace Group roadmap. #LI-sl4 Qualifications SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE: 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar position Bilingual English/ Spanish (preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Comprehensive knowledge of all Lean, Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing activities including methods, processing, tooling, plant layout, workflow, manufacturing cost control and reduction. Extensive knowledge of lean manufacturing in order to analyze, evaluate and determine solution to a wide variety of problems that may affect his/her assigned area Human relations skills to direct processing personnel and to work with other plant supervisory personnel. Good communication skills Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Computer Skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Minitab or statistical software preferred) Project management skills (preferred) Understanding of problem-solving methods (Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis) Knowledge of industry and customer specific quality registration schemes and certification processes (ISO9001, AS9100) Knowledge of process auditing techniques to ensure compliance to defined quality requirements Detail Oriented Goal-oriented Green belt (preferred) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: At Eaton’s business, you will become part of a high-energy team that operates in a continuous improvement environment.
