Act as a lead responsible for the Production Readiness Assessment (PRA) program serving all VMware Cloud Services and Cloud & Productivity Engineering (CPE) Services.

The PRA program is focused on helping service team assess their own reediness to successfully launching a new service, major milestone or existing service state. It consists of a checklist assessment and self-review of a service readiness for production. This review combines the operational expertise of VMware's CPE teams and industry best practices to provide a comprehensive review of VMware services during the incubation phase, development, operational, and end of life phases.

As a PRA lead, you will work with a virtual team of talented individuals that will be responsible for contributing to the reviews. Using your experience will be key as it provides more real-life best practices. At the same time empowering the rest of the team to do the same.

Interact with the CPE Service Maturity team who continue to develop the Build & Operate SaaS Services (BOSS) guide, an important part of the Production Reediness Program (PRP)

We’re looking for a technical and industry-experienced engineering manager to join us and lead the program. The candidate must have experience building and operating production systems either as an engineer or a manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Drive and Scale the program up by advancing self-service, automations and sourcing more contributing members
• Drive cross-org and cross-BU alignment around reliability between Product and Infrastructure engineering teams.
• Partner with other Engineering Managers across VMware to achieve reliability outcomes for their services
• Participate in deep technical design discussions across partner teams and ensure that we're building the right systems and keeping the quality high
• Communicate with internal and customer-facing teams in support of status updates regarding open issues, and implement actions in support of root cause analysis and problem remediation

Minimum Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development, reliability, or operations engineering experience in a highly customer-focused environment.
• 5+ years experience building & operating services on large-scale projects that included technical deep-dives and production troubleshooting in the areas of distributed systems, code, networking, storage, and operating system.
• Possess strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate teams.
• Bring a strong perspective and collaborative partnership that drives change and motivates engineers to develop simple solutions to complex operational or reliability challenges.
• Provide a strong technical vision for systems, infrastructure and application layers.
• Capable of leading a discussion with upper management and are able to tailor the level of technical detail to suit your audience.
• Solid understanding of system performance and monitoring
• Solid verbal and written communication skills
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science, or a related field
