Job Title: System Maintenance Technician

Hours: Base schedule will be M-F 6am-3pm and weekends/nights as needed, will also be on call for afterhours support

 

Job Purpose/Overview

The System Maintenance Technician is the maintenance leader for the day-based maintenance technicians in an assigned area.  They are responsible for the performance of the equipment in their assigned area.  The work includes resource management, continuous improvement, project activities and training.  They are also responsible for the communication of key issues and improvements to the Quality Manager, CVS Production Manager and CVS Area Managers.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the effective functioning of System improvement Team.
  • Drive compliance to safety rules and procedures and ensure participation in safety meetings within an area.
  • Review all safety work orders generated in an area.
  • Be a liaison to Operations Managers on reliability performance of area of responsibility.
  • Ensure creation and execution of an effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Develop a systematic approach to improving area reliability; identify priorities, initiate activities and measure/report results.  Coordinate this with the Maintenance Technicians in their areas of responsibility.
  • Work and communicate with other System Maintenance Technicians and the Maintenance Manager to ensure reliability improvements are implemented consistently across the site.
  • Create partnerships and clear communications with the Operations Department.  Create cross-functional partnerships.
  • Develop, track and communicate maintenance specific metrics in area of responsibility.  Ensure consistent maintenance metrics.
  • Work with the Shift Maintenance Technicians to develop corrective action plans from issues identified in maintenance metric reports.
  • Assist the Area Reliability Team to ensure that necessary resources/expertise is available where and when needed.
  • Be a resource to the Commissioning, Validation, and Start-up (CVS) process for projects and equipment installations. Attend FAT at vendor facility domestic and abroad.
  • Constantly review the area budget and assist the Maintenance Manager with budget control.
  • As needed, lead the daily operations/reliability meetings, assuring that ongoing issues are documented, and the appropriate resources are identified.
  • Recommend and implement changes in methods, equipment, systems and organization to assure improvements in area efficiency and that the objectives of the line/area are being met.
  • Coordinate associate relations issues and guide the training, development and motivation of the associates following self-managed, team-working principles.
  • With guidance from the area manager, establish area goals and objectives.  Measure and report result of work towards ongoing goals and objectives.  Take corrective actions when appropriate.
  • Provide the Area Manager with input on each area associates performance summary and development plan.  Coordinate the delivery of needed training in the area.  Provide performance feedback to each team associate.
  • Hire, schedule and manage activities of contractors for modifications, additions, heavy construction and highly specialized labor performed on assigned equipment or systems.
  • This position and all site associates are responsible for quality and food safety.

 

Mission Critical Competencies

  • Ability to effectively manage and lead associates working as Shift Maintenance Technicians in the area to assure that the area runs efficiently and is ready to meet the future demands of the business.
  • Knowledge of Electrical systems using 480 volt 3 phase as well as 24 volt through 240 volt single phase systems.
  • Controls and instrumentation knowledge including, but not limited to, HMI systems chart recorders, resistance temperature detectors, pressure differential transmitters and 4-20 MA loop control systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PLC hardware including Allen Bradley PLCs as well as others used in the field. Also needs to have software familiarity with Allen-Bradley software packages and others used in the field as well as basic to intermediate PLC ladder logic.
  • Working knowledge of Allen Bradley, and Square D variable frequency drives and other common drives used in the field.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic, mechanical/electrical and hydraulic systems and how they relate to each other.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Adhere to change management process.
  • Conduct P.M. activities to included P.M. optimization

 

Job Specifications/Qualifications

Education & Professional Qualifications

Desired Education

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Associates degree or equivalent in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering
  • Technical training from an accredited school and/or military experience in related fields
  • Electrical safe work practices
  • Confined space entry
  • Working at heights
  • Forklift operation
  • FDA Better Process Control certification
  • Filling, seaming, packaging and labelling equipment maintenance training

 

Knowledge / Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience maintaining electrical control and mechanical systems on complex process and/or high-speed production equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Programmable Controllers
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, testing, and repairing instrumentation and controls.
  • 480 Volt, Three Phase power distribution and motor controls
  • Welding
  • Machining
  • Mechanical maintenance

 

Desired Skills

  • Programmable Logic Controller troubleshooting, repair and software, modification, and adjustment (Allen Bradley)
  • Electrical/Electronics-install and repair (some explosion proof environments)
  • Single and 3-phase powered equipment (troubleshoot, test, and repair)

  • Operate electronic test equipment (multi-meter, meg-ohm meter, amp probe, Hart Communicator, oscilloscope, power analyzer)
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic control and powered systems
  • Robotics operation, repair, and program modifications.
  • Machining, mill and lathe
  • Steel fabrication and repair
  • Welding (MIG, TIG and stick)
  • Blueprint reading
  • Thermal processing instruments and controls
  • Proper use of hand and power tools
