Job Description Summary

Responsible for capital management for BancWest, the Bank and its subsidiaries. Will be focused on the design and implementation of a capital planning process consistent with regulatory requirements and industry best practice, and ongoing management of that process once it has been implemented. In addition to: will manage the execution of the annual capital planning process and associated stress test requirements. Will have significant interaction with business partners across Treasury, Risk, Controller's and the business units, as well as significant interaction with executive leadership (including management committees and the Board of Directors) and our Regulators.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for the Bank's capital management process, including project efforts related to enhancing the process to comply with changing capital and regulatory requirements. Provide thought and operational leadership related to all aspects of the capital management process, including model development, risk quantification, capital allocation, performance measurement, and organizational structure.
  • Partner with Finance and Bank Executives to drive the firm's capital strategy, leveraging the outputs of the aforementioned process.
  • Develop strong working partnership with all process stakeholders. Understand impact of changes to process inputs on capital process, as well as necessary changes required due to changes in requirements for process outputs.
  • Leads communication and change management efforts related to the capital planning process. Ensure development of appropriate communication and change management efforts to ensure minimal disruption as changes occur.
  • Review (and remediate gaps, as necessary) the control infrastructure associated with the capital management process. Ensure controls impact for all changes are understood and accounted for prior to completion. Partner with stakeholders "upstream" of the process and the Corporate Internal Controls team to ensure appropriate controls are in place.
  • Acquire, develop, motivate and retain top talent, providing a high level of mentorship that creates a world-class environment that stimulates problem-solving and identifies and develops improved business practices.
  • Assess implications of pending regulatory and market changes on the Bank's capital position, as well as their secondary implication (e.g., on Bank's profitability, capital allocation decisions, etc.)
Other Job Duties
  • Will initially build and direct a project team focused on the design and build of the Bank's enhanced capital process; subsequent to completion of the project the incumbent will manage the resulting dedicated team that manages the new process.
  • Serve as organizational subject matter expert in the areas of capital and capital management
  • Participate in projects throughout enterprise with impacts to capital management process
  • Oversee ad-hoc projects, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience
  • Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area.
  • Typically has advanced knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organization.
  • Requires 10 years minimum prior relevant experience.

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Finance or related field.

Skills
  • Deep understanding of relevant Treasury, Finance and Risk concepts and practices, including but not limited to ALM, Forecasting/Budgeting, all risk types (e.g., credit, market, operational, liquidity, etc.), strategic planning, and performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of capital concepts (including both regulatory and economic capital) and capital management techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills Strong organization and process improvement experience, including assessing an organization and developing and executing a plan to improve processes/outcomes.
  • Demonstrated execution bias with ability to make progress toward organizational objectives in an ambiguous environment.
  • Strong track record of building and developing a high-functioning team. Demonstrated ability to identify, motivate and retain top talent.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage and lead cross functional teams to success. Prior experience managing complex implementation projects required.
  • Exposure to relevant technologies used within the Treasury/Finance/Risk space (QRM, Hyperion, GL systems, loan / investment sub-ledgers, data warehouse / marts, Matlab, SAS, etc.).
  • Outstanding communication skills in meeting, presentation, and written reports. Demonstrated ability to present complex ideas to a variety of audiences (including Bank staff, executives, Board of Directors and Regulators).
