Centre Senior Manager (Ref No.: CEVR-CSM)

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) oversee and ensure smooth daily operation of CEVR and manage a team of administrative, marketing and technical staff;

(b) provide strong support to assist both the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Scientific Director as well as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Deputy Scientific Director in executing the strategic plan and achieving the KPIs of CEVR;

(c) market, promote and broaden CEVR’s research activities through enhancing networks within optometry, ophthalmology and related industries; promote the Centre’s contributions to the industry and the public where appropriate;

(d) liaise with related government departments and relevant departments within PolyU and UW to handle administrative, finance and research project matters;

(e) oversee the preparation of budget proposals and annual plans and monitor the implementation by establishing expense control systems in accordance with the allocated budget;

(f) prepare periodic reports, financial statements and annual reports of CEVR;

(g) monitor financial status and progress of research projects to ensure achievement of the research milestones;

(h) evaluate effectiveness of CEVR’s activities and develop improvement measures; devise and implement evaluation methodology; analyse results and recommend and/or take appropriate action;

(i) assist in the activities of the Board of the Centre; and

(j) perform any other duties as assigned by the CEO and Scientific Director as well as the COO and Deputy Scientific Director of CEVR and/or their delegates.

The appointee will be required to travel for business purposes, work flexible hours, and may be required to participate in outreach events, conferences, seminars and exhibitions beyond normal office hours.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a) have a master’s degree or above in Business Administration or a related discipline; experience in Vision Science would be a plus;

(b) have at least ten years’ post-qualification experience at managerial level in a laboratory and/or research centre/institute;

(c) be able to work independently, knowledgeable about organizational and supervisory practices and principles as well as budget preparation and forecasting;

(d) have proven experience in liaison with government departments;

(e) have strong network in Vision Science related sectors;

(f) have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with researchers, students, industry collaborators and senior business leaders;

(g) have strong skills in coordination and prioritization of work and activities;

(h) have demonstrated good team management and organisation skills to lead and collaborate with dynamic teams; and

(i) have an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with proficiency in Putonghua.

Remuneration
