The St. Regis Venice, based few steps away from St. Mark’s Square, is currently recruiting for a Chief Accountant.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Chief Accountant manages the day-to-day operation of the Accounting Office. Primary responsibilities include financial analysis, audit and control as per Company’s procedures, asset and liability reconciliation, cash control.

The ideal candidate demonstrates knowledge in accounting payable, receivable and income auditor roles, preferably within the Luxury Hospitality sector.

   


The main responsibilities and activities are:

 

  • To support the Director of Finance (DOF) in the management of the accounting Team

  • To ensure procedures and documentation are adhered to according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and support the DOF in reaching the level of compliance requested by policy.

  • To work closely to the DOF and support him also on the preparation of Internal Audits, ISRA Audits, CSAT.

  • To facilitate the communication within the department staff and with internal/external stakeholders.

  • To manage Projects with independence and autonomy.

  • To generate and to provide accurate and timely results in the form of accounting postings, reports, presentations, accounting reconciliation etc.

  • To analyze information and evaluate results to propose the best solution and solve problems.

  • To compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, or verify information or data.

  • To ensure that the P&L is accurate (i.e., costs are properly matched to revenue, costs are recorded in the proper accounts).

  • To ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation in accordance with SOPs.

  • To review audit issues and make corrections as necessary.

  • To leverage centralized accounting processes and shared services demonstrating and applying accounting knowledge.

  • To use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.

  • To leverage technology and effectively use information systems and tools to generate financial reports and provide managers with analytical support to drive decision-making.

  • To prove guidance to others regarding accounting procedures and policy implementation.

  • To attend critique meetings (i.e. Credit Meetings) to review information with management team.

  • To advise the Director of Finance on existing and evolving operating/financial issues.

  • To communicate financial concepts in a clear and persuasive manner that is easy to understand in order to drive desired behaviors.

  • To provide direction and assistance to other organizational units and head of departments regarding accounting procedures, and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.

  • To provides information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

  • To maintain Finance and Accounting Goals up to the requested standard.

  • To submit reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines.

  • To ensure assets and liabilities are documented accurately and proper back up is in place.

  • To achieve and exceed goals including performance goals, team goals, etc.

  • To develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.

  • To support a strong accounting & operational control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations and profitability and manage business risks.

                                                     

REQUIREMENTS


  •  At least 3 years of 360° experience in accountancy (suppliers and clients accountancy, income auditor).
  • Preferably from the Hospitality industry – luxury segment or other high end service business sectors.

  • Ideally with a degree in Finance and Accounting or related subjects.

  • Demonstrates strong initiative in keeping up to date with company regulations, procedures and processes.

  • Takes ownership of projects recognizing and prioritizing needs and requests.

  • Adapts quickly to changes in policies and procedures and shows a keen ability to search for up-to-date corporate information.

  • Knowledge of Marriott Systems, particularly PeopleSoft – Accountancy, is an advantage.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (including pivot tables) and able of training others.

  • Capable to work under pressure and with strict deadlines while ensuring high and consistent performance.

  • Fluent English and at least intermediate Italian.
