Job Summary:

Head of Business Analytics & Insights (BAI), a Director position, will be a proactive strategic thought-partner to and part of China commercial teams. He/she will ensure the delivery of high quality strategic business decision support, including investment decisions and commercial strategies and tactics. As a part of the Upjohn organization, he/she will have the unique entrepreneurial opportunity to create a ~ $3 B “start-up” within the larger Pfizer organization.

This role will act as the BAI Leader across Upjohn China organization including 5 regional business groups, retail business groups, and marketing. He/she will accountable for leading market analytics, managing data sources and making insight-based recommendations.

The person in this role will frame, investigate, and answer key business questions and ensure that these questions are addressed in all relevant analytics and insights plans. These plans will include performance measurement, forecast development, customer analytics, customer journey and segmentation development, customer data mining and market research, as needed, to uncover insights. This person is responsible for ensuring effective and efficient execution of analytics, data and insight plans for China market.

Additionally, this Director will also seamlessly interface with the Upjohn Global Analytics team members. Upjohn has developed an exciting “Helix” approach to working cross-functionally as opposed to a traditional matrix structure. With the “Helix”, the BAI colleague will have the opportunity to be directly part of the commercial team, but will also be part of creating the Upjohn BAI community. He/she will be part of any BAI Centers of Excellence (CoEs) to ensure all resources are fully and appropriately leveraged to deliver robust solutions to business issues. He/she will develop new best practices for the Upjohn group and benefit from functional skill building and professional development as a member of this community.

This role is dynamic, fast-paced, highly collaborative, and covers a broad range of strategic topics that are critical to our business. The successful candidate will embody Upjohn cultural principles of being “fast, focused and flexible.” He/she will join Upjohn China team to support business transformation through their proactive thought leadership, innovative analytical capabilities and their ability to communicate highly complex and dynamic information in new and creative ways.

Responsibilities:

Role definition and Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Market Analytics

  • Develop Upjohn China analytics plan and coordinate execution against the plan with the Senior Manager BAI and commercial teams.
  • Provide strategic thinking and market analytics leadership to China commercial teams to drive investment decisions and define commercial strategies and tactics by framing, investigating, and answering key business questions.
  • Lead the identification of information needs, research and data analysis plans, overall management of the research process, and communication of actionable insights.
  • Connect research and analytics together to tell a compelling and persuasive story and deliver clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Provide market analytics to support the identification and assessments of new business opportunities. Support BD Business Case development through Market Insight Generation, Scenario Analysis, Financial Modeling, & Primary/Secondary research.
  • Support business model advancement by partnering with teams to develop/enhance the Personalized Marketing Omni Channel strategy – including identification of content propensity and new channels, and creation of an insight-based content library & journey planning.

Forecasting/Operating Plan Support

  • Act as the BAI lead for the development of short-term and Long Range Forecasts (LRFs) and Operating Plans for the entire China Upjohn Business.
  • Regularly review and enhance plans and communicate the results and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Act as China BAI lead and liaise with IQVIA and other data vendors, ensuring data needs are effectively and cost-efficiently met.
  • Ensure effective performance measurement and deliver regular assessments of portfolio performance to leadership. Ensure accuracy of the reports and clear articulation of the data and its meaning for the business.
  • Drive the creation of best-in-class epi- and trend-based forecast models in partnership with CoE colleagues.

Vendor/Offshore Resource Management

  • Develop, commission and contract innovative complex and impactful projects through preferred vendors.
  • Accountable for meeting compliance, CEP and Corporate SOP obligations of all Primary Market Research projects.
  • Manage budgets associated with assigned activities.
  • Direct workload of flexible resources and identify the need for changes in flexible resources.
  • Be accountable for continuous improvement and identification/utilization of new capabilities to maximize the competitive advantages of the business
  • Serves as an advisor to BA teams on preferred supplier selection and regular supplier performance reviews.

Collaboration with other Analytical teams

  • Actively contribute to advancement of Upjohn Business Analytics capabilities through thought leadership; seek to share knowledge and expertise with other colleagues making use of the knowledge sharing platform(s).
  • Lead proactive alignment with cross functional teams and resources to ensure cohesive activities with our stakeholders and facilitate best practice sharing.
  • Partner with other analytic functions to advance the use of novel data sources including Real World Data.

Technical Skills Requirements:

  • Fluent in English and Mandarin
  • Strong strategic thinking, framing and execution capabilities; able to influence and impact through cross-functional leadership
  • Known subject matter expert for quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Extensive experience in the design and management of secondary data analytics. Advanced knowledge about study design and able to assess and direct vendor technical capabilities and manage risks in the analytic process.
  • Recognized expertise and coach to others on connecting, integrating and synthesizing analysis and data into a meaningful ‘so what’ to drive concrete strategic recommendations and enable commercial decision making. Identifies, prioritizes and describes relevant caveats in data/model and how they relate to business question and broader strategic business priorities.
  • Innovates and has strong expertise in customer/omni-channel analytics
  • Demonstrated experience of forecasting revenues for complex markets.
  • Previous demonstrated experience in using innovative techniques to monitor, simulate and analyze complex data sets.
  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize multiple demands and deal with ambiguity and lead teams through complex and challenging cross-functional projects.
  • Role model, experienced with leading without authority in complex matrix environments with senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to act as a strategic consultant with ability to quickly establish relationships of trust and credibility and to be seen as a driving partner to commercial/marketing clients and serves as an advisor to others.
  • Previous demonstrated Business / Financial acumen
  • Rich experience in business analysis and data management to develop insights
  • Excellent oral and written communications capabilities and presentation and facilitation skills
  • Experience in project management and cross-functional teams collaboration
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing capabilities

    Experience

  • 10+ years of professional experience, with 7+ years in analytic roles; Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Investment Banking & Consulting is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated significant professional experience of commercial, strategy and/or research/analytics interacting with senior stakeholders to effectively communicate insights.

Education

Masters (or equivalent) preferred in a quantitative discipline.
