The role is responsible for managing and coordinating civil engineering works on a project to deliver the works safely, on time and to budget. It also has the responsibility to secure production requirements through effective control and utilisation of a work area or small groups to the defined standards of safety, environment and quality. Must ensure that all plant, materials, supervision and labour are utilised to the optimum value to the section of works while maintaining and improving standards of safety, environment and quality. Must have knowledge of construction techniques and understand the logistical problems and constraints of working within the railway environment. Understanding and experience in a variety of Civil Engineering Disciplines. Experience in managing a number of teams and ensuring that they are equipped to carry out any task which may be set. Must be able to produce WPP's, TBS, place orders, keep quality and safety records relating to the job at hand. Ability to read and understand technical drawings. Understand the material requirements from drawings and specifications to order suitable materials. Understand the company management systems for control of plant, materials and labour. Operates and promotes safe working on site Completes construction programme/tasks to required quality standard Assesses work area and takes any necessary action Identifies manpower requirements Checks plant availability Puts Leading Hands/Gangers to work Ensures documentation is properly completed in accordance with management systems Liaises with Engineers on construction requirements Reports progress to Installation manager Implements Company requirements on policy standards and legal regulations with specific attention to quality and environment Educational Requirements: Construction background with strong character Relevant CSCS Supervisory competence Applicable Civil engineering experience (Railway preferrable) IOSH or CITB site supervison training or equivalent Ability to manage and control small groups of staff Excellent communication skills at all levels of department and other disciplines also customer and suppliers Must be willing to travel and lodge away from home depot to meet the operational needs of the business Knowledge & Experience: Desirable Skills Good communicator Competence in understanding plant, materials and labour requirements to deliver civil Engineering works on the Railway Evidence of delivering small packages of works Understanding of relevant legislation, standards for working in this environment Essential Leadership Competencies: Understanding of Performance and quality requirements Leadership Fosters teamwork Displays Organisational Awareness Acts with integrity Collaborative Working Communication Safety, Environment and Community Specific Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities for this Post Follow the good examples set by the Project Manager in creating a robust H&S culture within the project Set an example by their own actions and activities Set targets and objectives for H&S and environmental for their direct staff, use the staff dialogues process for managing H&S and environmental objectives Ensure that directed staff are capable and competent to undertake the tasks allocated to them Ensure effective implementation of the Siemens Project Health & Safety Plan, Project Quality Plan and Project Environmental Plan on projects responsible for and in compliance with PCL requirements Responsibility for undertaking the role of Responsible Manager for RIPs activities where the Project Manager requires. This includes ensuring the RIPs plans are suitable for the work, nominating competent safety critical personal to safely execute the works, monitoring the requirements of the RIPs plans and undertaking verification checks on plans to ensure compliance and effectiveness. Communicate and encourage feedback on H &S and environmental issues Undertake appropriate disciplinary action for any breach of H&S Investigate accidents or incidents to determine basic causes, feedback information both up and down the organisation Ensure adequate H&S equipment is to hand and is used by employees Undertake H&S tours or inspections; take action where deficiencies are observed When unable to rectify or remedy unsafe situations either stop work if the risk is too high and/or report the deficiency (and involve HSQE) to the Project Manager for action Promote and use the business procedures to control and manage work Understand the H & S and environment risks involved in any activity they control and ensure any mitigation designated to control that risk are effectively operated/implemented Be prepared and be competent to manage any for-seen emergency situations Become involved in any worksafe problem and help resolve that problem Maintain their competence to manage their own H&S and environmental responsibilities and contribute to their directs competence to manage their H&S and environmental responsibilities About us We’re Siemens.
