Job Description

• Primary responsibility will be to provide daily clinical care and guidance to veterinary technicians at the Thousand Oaks (CA) facility which houses rodent and nonrodent species.
• Support Attending Veterinarian on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, including protocol review, animal welfare non-compliance investigation, post-approval monitoring, program review, and facility inspections.
• Support and participate in the program of veterinary care at two other sites (San Francisco; Vancouver BC) to all Amgen sites
• Contribute to the training and development of veterinary, husbandry, and discovery research staff
• Assist with USDA readiness of the program of veterinary care
• Participate in  animal welfare audits of external business partners; review of protocols related to external studies
• Work closely with the head of Laboratory Animal Science and Attending Veterinarian on implementation of current and new strategies related to the program of veterinary care, animal welfare and compliance, and vivarium management
• Rotate weekend veterinary on-call responsibilities with the Attending Veterinarian
• Investigate adverse events internally and with external business partners, make an assessment on the impact of the study, provide corrective and preventive action plans
• Travel to other Amgen sites (as needed) to provide veterinary care and animal welfare oversight

Basic Qualifications:

• DVM from an AVMA accredited veterinary school and licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state of the USA
• Ability to obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in California within 1 year  of hire
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine
• Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or board eligible is preferred
