Our location in Lake County, Illinois, currently has an opportunity for Cloud Architect in our Information Management team. Develop and recommend novel and innovative approaches to solving business and technical problem using analytics solutions. This role will lead architecture development for data platforms, business solutions, and proof of concept and assist the big data / IM team in realizing platform modernization goals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

This Cloud Architect will play a critical role in establishing architecture, tools and standards to support datawarehousing platforms. A key element of this position will require the candidate to establish strong relationships with the Business relationship managers, business SMEs within the functional domain area and IT Leadership.

MAIN REPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Demonstrate high degree of analytic agility to meet fluid and dynamic business needs
  • Expertise - Collaborate with Abbott employees and partners to develop big data platform architectures using AWS services such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Data Pipeline, S3, Relational Database Service (RDS), DynamoDB, and Amazon Redshift. 
  • Solutions – Advise and guide technical engineers on engagements. This includes participating in on-site visits, understanding customer requirements, creating solution proposals and creating data service offerings. 
  • Deep understanding of database and analytical technologies in the industry including MPP databases, NoSQL storage, Graph databases, Data Warehouse design, BI reporting and Dashboard development
  • Delivery - Engagements proving the use of AWS services to support new distributed computing solutions that often span private cloud and public cloud services. Engagements will include development of solutions specific to use cases, upkeep of current big data architecture, conducting Proof of Concepts, guiding teams on migration of existing applications and development of new applications using AWS cloud services. 
  • Provision, operate and maintain systems running on AWS
  • Research and document best practices, engineering standards and required SLC deliverables
  • Specific focus on DevOps processes and cloud infrastructure
  • Focus on performance and load testing and Reliability engineering/monitoring
  • Stand up and expand data as service collaboration with partners in US and other Develop highly scalable and extensible Big Data platforms which enable collection, storage, modeling, and analysis of massive data sets 
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical business and executive leaders 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience; Computer Science or Math background preferred 
  • 12+ years’ experience of IT platform implementation in a highly technical and analytical role. 
  • 3-5 years Cloud (AWS/Azure) experience.

Preferred

  • Previous lead experience. May lead 2-3 team members.
  • Hands-on experience in Big Data Components/Frameworks, AWS solution components required, experience in one of more of Python, R, Spark, Hive, Hadoop, Kafka, YARN, Pig, Hive, Scala, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence within and across organizations, functions and business areas
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges in an enterprise environment. 
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and work independently but engage others as needed to accomplish milestones and deliverables
  • Ability to work in a matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Have a solid understanding of Software Life Cycle (SLC) methodologies and deliverables including the Business Impact Assessment, Disaster Recovery Plan and Change Request
  • Cloud certification preferred.
