Responsibilities

We work on a flexible and varied portfolio of challenges that include, but are not limited to:

  • Enabling Digital Health by developing an ecosystem of data science capabilities for improved clinical trial design, execution and monitoring that includes remote monitoring, telemedicine, medical and wearable devices to augment trials

  • Researching and developing data science algorithms using high-frequency data generated from trials to achieve goals on patient centricity and improved clinical trial design/execution

  • Developing and implementing end-to-end automation and integration of our algorithms in products using state-of-the-art serverless architectures in cloud platforms such as AWS

  • Supporting individual therapeutic areas and study teams solve varied challenges using statistics, data sciences and machine learning

These challenges will require you to:

  • Deliver data science and ML software models and components that solve real-world business problems, while working in collaboration with the Product and Data Science teams.

  • In collaboration with relevant IT functions, establish an integration framework incl. patterns and standards for the future landscape that forms the foundation for effective integration that supports/enables continued digital transformation

  • Promote, advocate and lead initiatives to help data science delivery innovative solutions to internal projects and products through technology integration

  • Help encourage transformation management through mentoring and training of data science teams on standard IT/computer science practices for platform and product delivery

  • Early engagement with the data science team to conceptualise and build blue-prints for product and platform deliveries that drive value for AstraZeneca

  • Own, support and manage data science solution deliveries that meet the identified business needs and meet required quality standards and non-functional requirements.

  • Clearly and objectively communicate results, as well as their associated uncertainties and limitations

  • Constructively collaborate with a diverse set of users (global functions and local marketing companies) and partners enabling effective consensus, conflict resolution and alignment to project goals

  • Review and develop working practices to ensure that data science work is delivered to robust quality standards

Essential:

  • PhD/MS in computer science, computer engineering or a related computational field. Applicants with a PhD in a computer science subject area who also have shown experience in data science integration and delivery are encouraged to apply.

  • Deep practical experience in AWS, cloud infrastructure and architecture development, management and delivery, with experience in integration architect on large scale transformation projects working with architecture design in a variety of sophisticated situations,

  • A self-starter with high level of drive, energy, resilience with well-developed communication and facilitation skills with the ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language at all levels of leadership

  • Technical skills to serve as the foundation for cloud architecture planning and management, including basic programming, software development and continuous integration, continuous deployment (CICD), database, networking, security skills, etc.

  • Experience implementing cloud patterns including PaaS and IaaS, containers, microservices/API-driven and event-led application design preferred.

  • Container technologies including but not limited to Docker, Kubernetes, Serverless preferred.

  • API management patterns w/ MuleSoft preferred.

Desirable:

  • Experience administering enterprise software development and deployment processes, including CI/CD and version control.

  • Ability to design secure and robust server and network architecture.

  • Experience integrating with SQL server, ETL processes, feeds, and other data sources.

  • High proficiency in hands-on computer programming in Python or R

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, business analysis, and consultancy skills

  • Customer focus - dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
