Summary:

The Cloud Solutions Engineer is responsible for installing, securing, and supporting cloud IaaS systems and PaaS resources in a global environment. This person will also be assigned projects to research, design and implement fixes and enhancements to existing technology as well as new technologies required to support business requirements. The position requires initiative, judgment and working with little supervision. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded blend of customer support skills and a strong technology background.

 

Responsibilities:

• Build and configure infrastructure resources in cloud platforms including Azure and AWS
• Create and maintain scripts for tasks, tools, and automated builds
• Create and maintain scripts for configuration audits, and automated exception reports
• Installation and configuration of servers and operating system software
• Perform troubleshooting of issues related to all aspects of infrastructure and application services
• Configuration and troubleshooting of cloud-based networking components such as virtual networks, subnets, security groups, routing, and VPN tunnels
• Utilize diagnostic tools to troubleshoot network problems
• Collaborate with colleagues, application analysts and/or vendor support teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Assist in group effort to manage Service Desk process ensuring tickets acted upon appropriately
• Create, update, and maintain documentation for recurring procedures as well as one-off resolutions
• Plan and coordinate environment changes and enhancements with application and development teams
• Monitor system utilization and plan for future expansion to ensure our capacity aligns with scalability requirements
• Remediate network and server vulnerabilities as discovered by network scans and penetration tests
• Document system architecture/design and procedures
• Assist with Network Operations Center to create and enhance monitoring procedures
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide off-hours support
• Occasional weekend and off-hours work will be required

 

Required Skills

• PowerShell scripting and ability to apply those skills to automate repetitive tasks
• At least some other scripting language such as Python, PowerShell DSC, Ruby
• Windows Server (Linux experience considered a plus) administration
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting infrastructure systems
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Ability to write IT documentation/instructions, routine reports, and correspondence

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong work ethic, self-motivated, excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills
• Candidate must be able to effectively communicate in English (written & verbal)

Desired Skills

• Understanding of virtualized/cloud architecture, configuration, and management (esp. Azure)
• Deploying configurations and utilizing configuration management tools such as:
  • Azure Resource Manager, PowerShell Desired State Configuration, Git, Terraform, Ansible
• LAN/WAN networking and firewall configuration
• Load balancers and high-availability strategies (physical and/or virtual)
• Storage management and support
• Backup/restore administration and Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity planning
• Web server configuration and optimization
• Kubernetes experience considered a plus
• Monitoring tools across infrastructure and application services
• Active Directory administration
• Microsoft SQL server (from system administrator perspective)
• Encryption technologies including SSL certificates and Data at Rest encryption strategies

 

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college in computer science or related field or 7 years of equivalent industry experience
